A jealous man who stabbed his heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend as she walked home from the school run was jailed for 17 years and four months.
Daniel Popescu, 29, hid behind a parked car with a seven-inch knife and waited for Andreea Pintili to return from taking her children to school.
The attack in December 2023 caused schools near the scene in Aberfan, near Merthyr Tydfil to be placed into lockdown.
Ms Pintili said she believed Popescu would have killed her and her unborn child had he not been interrupted by a passer-by.
Popescu pleaded guilty to attempted murder and stalking offences.
He became obsessed with Ms Pintili after she ended their three-year relationship and stalked and harassed her by following her and attempting to call her from withheld numbers.
He also posted a video of her on TikTok, sat outside her home and left his clothes in two black bags on her doorstep before leaving her a voicemail saying: "I’m not going anywhere until you get back with me."
At Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, the Recorder of Cardiff, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke imposed an extended sentence of 17 years and four months after ruling that Popescu posed a danger to the public.
He was told he will serve two-thirds of his sentence in custody and be subject to an extended licence period of three years.
Popescu was also handed a rare indefinite restraining order to protect Ms Pintili and her children from further assault or harassment.
The judge said Popescu felt "very little true remorse", adding: "In my judgement, the aggravating factors outweigh the mitigating factors."
