No doubt! Many years ago when I went to court for my civil protection order, every time I heard the elevator ding, I’d have a panic attack and shake. I didn’t want to see my abuser. My daughter and I were put in a similar situation in California while fighting a domestic violence child custody case for the past year now. We are from Massachusetts and had a restraining order from. Massachusetts against him. Each time we would go to court there, we had a plan because in that court in California everybody had to stay in a waiting room, regardless of the restraining order because according to them " they had cameras and officers" we always felt so unsafe. In one occasion her husband chased her all the way to the lady's restrooms while I had to take an elevator 4 floors down to look for help. Another time he had a friend of his, stranger for us wait for us to arrive with the baby outside the court. Luckily for us, we always had a plan and always drove a different car( a rental). We knew his car so we would make sure that he was parked and inside the court. I would stay in the waiting room and wait for everybody to go in and then text my daughter to come in when we were in the court room, we always sat against the wall there too( she would be waiting in the car or in a secret bathroom we found in the first floor and we will also alternate our looks and style, that's why his friend couldn't tell who we were). After the case would be over I would send her to hide in the bathroom and would stay behind making sure I would remind the bailer about our situation and he would hold him back. We would meet up in the bathroom abd wait for 15 minutrs before leaving. I truly believe he would've killed us had we not made those plans. In Massachusetts as soon as you walk in to security and tell them about your restraining order they will call a security officer to bring you to your court room and the officer will stay in and outside that whole time making sure that you are both separated from each other and would hold the defendant in the court room until security lets them know the victim is out of the building. We won the full permanent custody and he ran back to India as a FUGITEVE in USA!😂😂

I’m currently going through a very similar legal process with my now ex-husband-protection order, criminal domestic violence charge, divorce. In all my trips to the courthouse, I’ve felt uneasy knowing he’s around somewhere. And even going around my town, I feel uneasy that I’ll run into him in public or that he’s watching me from a distance somehow. It is a very scary feeling. And the sad part is the law is reactive rather than proactive. It’s hard to convince others of your fear or for anything to be done when the person you’re afraid of hasn’t actually hurt you, at least not yet. I feel very sorry for the victims in this case and for their families. What a horrific way to lose loved ones, especially for the children. My thoughts and prayers to those around the victims. Even though we’ve come a long way in dealing with domestic violence, I think we still have a long way to go in taking matters more seriously to protect people who are being domestically abused, even if it is just emotional abuse to begin with-there is no physical abuse that does not start with emotional abuse. Keep yourself safe, no matter if people think you’re overreacting.

There was a PREGNANT Filipino wife that was gunned down INSIDE the courthouse in the Seattle many years ago. She was there seeking a protection order and or to deal with her ongoing divorce case. She was following all the rules for dealing with problems-but some men can’t follow the rules. I think there should be surprise interventions whenever dealing with break-ups, divorce, or even just confronting abusive behavior. Invite his healthy family members, her family, maybe his best friends, a mediator and therapist and his Dr. it seems over the top, but if confronted IN THE MOMENT, IN A CONTROLLED area, maybe the men could actually get help.

They say that there are not resourses available to have people escorted to and from court by an armed officer but there were resources to stat flight this guy to the hospital and have doctors work on him for hours. Kind of messed up.
