After 30,000 years, John perfected his skills with genetics, created an army, and took back the galaxy for mankind after 5000 years of strife. Unfortunately, all the old Standard Template Construct machines that kept all of man's knowledge was lost. John was only known as the Emperor of Mankind by then.

Terrific movie! In the ending scene, John treated 'Chilly Willy' more like a distant relative rather than a son....seemed a little cold not to see John cry after Will died, but I guess John didn't spend enough time with Will to have a huge emotional bond with Will. Will's death benefitted John though because it clearly warned Sandy, his assistant/girlfriend that if she was going to tag along with John, then she should do so with eyes wide open to the eventuality of him leaving her.

Would you be open to changing your mind about being open changing your mind. See well minor things or that's hell with that conviction can be swayed into a change. Things that require full commitments and conviction can't be. Unless there's a change of person there won't be a change of mind. Now someone may change the religion however that's not change of mind but a change of belief. The mind while neuroplastic, in consideration to a person is often rigid in its purpose. The pursuits of fulfilling relationships, the achievements of great success, the Ecstasy of indulging in pleasures and the accumulation and exertion of control and power. These things can be seen in reflections of almost all people, in those few I haven't seen take actions based upon these things have most certainly done it, are going to do it, or my analysis was not deep enough into their actions. I find that people who are open to change their minds often mean beliefs they have that they consider with little importance.

It should also be noted that he hasn't always been a villian in his life it just so happens that in the modern world his views and ideology of Survival of the fittest isn't a heroic one. Even if he accepts and embraces natural selection, which is quite reasonable point of view from Savage's standpoint. At least according with "Young Justice" adaptation of the character. The Star Trek original series episode _Requiem for Methuselah_ was also written by Jerome Bixby. Its main character of Flint may have been John, or the other long-lived person he met. At least three of the actors in this film were also on one or more Star Trek shows.

Tony Todd's character explicitly says he's going home to watch Star Trek to return to rationality, when he's departing after John 'reveals' that he wasn't being serious, it was just a thought experiment... No doubt about it, Flint and John are the same person! Too many similarities! And remember, Flint made it clear he was quite alone in the Universe. I watched the movie some time ago and thought that it was very thought provoking. The reasons that he gave for his longevity were interesting from the points about cell regeneration, always moving on, like a reptilian instinct (not of aggressive fighting for blood, but fighting for life.) Liked he was evolving/learning whenever and wherever he would immigrate to. There are certain things that he mentioned would shake the core of many religious faiths. The ending is a validation of his stories, be it in a sad way. Liked how he ended up with his girlfriend joining him. Kind of a lord of Rings twist, he lives to see a son die, which no parent should experience, but perhaps he lives to see another person he loves the girlfriend, die.

I would probably do a lot of good stuff, like helping people build towns, trying to make a vaccine and live my life helping people with food, building stuff and so on. @ItsAsparageese2 жыл бұрын
@@raywhitehead730 That's blatantly untrue. Heinlein's work you reference was published in 1973. Jerry Bixby's first major work with this premise was the Trek episode "Requiem for Methuselah" which aired in 1969. This film is just a reworking of his original concept. And in the first place the premise refers to a Biblical figure anyway. The entire sci-fi community has always borrowed and remixed content from each other, especially back in the golden days of short fiction. Jerry's no exception, but he was particularly known for having highly original premises in general, and far more works derive from his material than there are works by him that derive from others. I mean come on, you're talking about the guy who first widely popularized the concept of a mirror universe and who conceived _Fantastic Voyage._ Heinlein is great and did a lot of brilliant original stuff too, and I'm not saying he got his idea from the Trek episode -- he absolutely could have had it independently -- but to accuse Jerry of deriving this storyline from the Heinlein work is patently ridiculous.

She is one of the only characters to get a last name besides John Oldman and Will Gruber, Linda Murphy, and you could interperate her more jokey questions and sarcasm as someone who makes light of John's story because she too is immortal and either knows to keep things light or doesn't believe his story for that reason.
