OMG! Y'all had me cracking up with the MOB drill! Great video. I almost caused a real MOB after we just completed a practice one. I was at sailing school, Jworld in Newport, Rhode Island. Last day and a few different crew members and we were racing. We had to do the drill and the guy steering didn't know how. This older lady says Bill knows how, so I took the helm. So the guy picks up the float and stands there holding it in the air. Jim, can't believe i remember his name cause I'm bad with names, was working the jib sheet and I had the main. We sheeted both lines and I headed up, close hauled and the guy lost his footing. Hey, we're racing, lol. Guy cut his leg, oops. Thanks for the laugh and bringing back that memory. I was chosen as most improved sailor for the week. Oh, we won all 3 races that day and the instructor that was with us said, he had never been on a boat that won all the races. What a great week! Stay safe 👍👍❤⛵🐶🐈
@SailingSunday4 жыл бұрын
Oh no, don't go overboard!!! lol. Atleast you won all the races! Yeah it was all a bit of fun, but we just keep practicing just in case we ever need to do it seriously.

The videos go so fast. Great one loved the MOB drill I know it's not easy to do but you did great except Brittni might not like the hook part. Stay safe guys every time I come to watch the subs are going up!
@SailingSunday4 жыл бұрын
haha, yeah, I might need a new retrieving method, the hook might not cut the mustard in a real life scenario. Thank you, it really picked up this last week, so excited:)

Guys, maybe you know, but never enough practising: in case of MOB: 0. the person in water should - if possible - move his/her hands so that remains as visible as possible. 1. if there are more people on board, the captan needs to point one crew to keep constantly an eye on the MOB, also showing the direction with his arm - hence the skipper always knows the direction. 2. hove to, start the engine, get close to the MOB 3. one person (in case there are several people on board) attaches a halyard line to his harness and jumps to the water - reaches to victim and clamps the victim`s harness also to the halyard 4. both people are winched back - it is good that you have electric winches.
@SailingSunday4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is very good info and definitely taken onboard. I hope someone else reads this also and learns from it. Yeah, Im not sure if brittni got that on the video, but I did hove to initially. RYA tells you to turn to wind, bring in the sails, hit the MOB button, call it in go back and do a circle etc etc etc etc... But in reality with just 2 people onboard, Hove to, throw everything in the water (we also have lights for night time, so we can throw 3 or 4 lights in the water in a line also) and we also wear our life jackets, harnessed in at night also. I hope we never have to do this for real life situation.
@tiborkiss91864 жыл бұрын
Btw., the life jacket: only the Teamo lifejacket is safe in a situation when someone slips off the deck while still attached to the boat with the safety line - which is the most likely MOB situation. You may check it out - that will be my next investment into safety on board.

Another great video. Do you have any drills for animal overboard. I watched follow the boat with their cat Millie before she pasted away and she fell overboard once they had taught her to climb the ladder but she went off the wrong way luckily they found her a while later😁❤️
@SailingSunday4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! ☺️ we have had many impromptu cat and dog overboard drills along our travels. However never underway (knock on wood) thankfully! We always make sure Finn has fenders tied down the side of our boat so he can climb them! (Which he has on a few occasions) as well as the ladder down which he can easily climb. Jackson is a little more complicated because of his size.

I am so glad you guys are out of the Turkish waters brother. Them and Greece are not having nice talks (well they might have figured it out, they sounded like they might talk things out the other day) it’s about water territories I believe, and that’s why you are seeing that Sub probably. Safe travels my friend.
@SailingSunday4 жыл бұрын
Yes we were a bit worried about it, we were goign to go to Cyprus but didn't for this reason, but realistically, I think Greece and Turkey have been at it for years anyway, so it's probably nothing that new. Hopefully all will be all ok and safe again soon.

What type of hard drives do you need? I have quite a few 2.5, 5200 laptop drives available. I'll send them for free if shipping isn't too crazy.
@SailingSunday4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, thats really kind of you. We just need portable hardrives to store all the footage on, we just bought a couple more again now. It's amazing how many we go through, we have about 7x 2/4TB HDDs now. We never budgeted for this, I honestly didn't really plan on any of this so didn't realise the importance of HDDs.

@reynaldneron90124 жыл бұрын
in your MoB drill, you need to practice to recover an unconscious body back onto the boat....
@SailingSunday4 жыл бұрын
yeah I think I would probably just reverse on it, but all depends on the situation. The boat hook worked for "brittni" this time though lol
@reynaldneron90124 жыл бұрын
@@SailingSunday the boat hook will not work for an unconscious body: the weight of a wet person, with clothes on, is much more difficult to recover A 65kg person was weighted at 110kg once drenched in water. ask yourself, how am I going to pull that person up all by myself? Also, reversing on the Mob: very likely, if a person is going overboard, there will be waves. In that case, the stern of the boat will be going up and down quite strongly. Do you really want the head of the Mob located near the stern of the boat when it comes down? You guys need a plan to allow any of you 2 to get the other back on board... A sling on a halyard works well. can be tricky to pass around the body of the MOB... there are other ways, but you need to make a plan.
@SailingSunday4 жыл бұрын
Reynald Néron I know, I was just joking about the boat hook. We have looked at one of those recovery kits and now we are doing more longer passages and night sails etc you’re right. we do need to organize ourselves better
