@@leonmason8521 Well some facts in this story make me think,this has never happened,firstly cause that female was not the alpha,secondly wolves live with the pack including the cubs,no mama wolf lives alone,the ones we call solo ones are older male wolves,so when this story said,he went to the den and there were only cubs,made me think it’s just a story,a beautiful one,but not real Yes,you could live with wolves,if you can earn the trust and friendship of the alpha,no other wolf goes above the alpha,and def no random wolf in a pack would dare to bring a human to the herd,so that also stood out to me I grew up very unique and awesome way,cause my father has been an huntsman my entire life,so I can see and notice things that other ppl maybe can’t I have seen wolves,they appear out of the blue and they disappear just like this They are creatures to be scared of,due to their ability to track, and especially when it’s winter time and food might be lacking,luckily they normally live in a deep deep woods and rarely cross paths with us,but if u step on their trail,I would suggest to turn around They are extremely intelligent and cautious and the change of a person ever meeting a wolf in real life is very low,even hunters don’t come across them often My daddy has set a wolf loose from a trap as well,but he had no pups and was a huge gray male wolf,but he used a sedative to shoot into him first,so that it would not end in his death and would not be so traumatizing for the wolf We have hunting dogs,so we were able to move our dogs from their kennel and put the injured wolf there,he cleaned the wolf up,tied his paw and we kept our distance,just fed him and gave him water A month later,he was able to run on his own,we did the same thing,sedated him and took him where we found him It’s amazing feeling to run your fingers thru such majestic fur He was knocked out and I gave it a hug and we left him to wake up Never saw that wolf again But it’s one of my best childhood memories,I even remember how he smelled like

There was a girl that I dated when I was a teenager. She had a massive wolf. He was huge. He was all wolf with piercing blue eyes. His name was Blue. He was not a dog. I was always very very gentle with him. He played ball and ran around us in circles. He didn't eat his tail and never barked. He only howled when we howled just to hear his bellow. It's was creepy hearing him at such a close range. He was super affectionate. He lived in the house. He blended in with the night. They would put h out sometimes on a chain and wire on cold nights until it got late so he could exercise and be outside a while. I would come over after working at Sonic and bring him several burgers with just meat and cheese. He ate them in one bite and took food super gentle. We cuddled in the floor with him on n front of the couch and used him like a pillow. That was one of the best beasts I've ever been around my entire life. He was the best of the best. When she and I parted ways I missed that animal. I didn't miss her Soo much. Ha ha but it's true

It’s true. I’m from the North…I have a very similar story. My wolf was named Polar and he was exceptionally big and hugely aggressive, the only person to ever feed him was me. We lived together with his pack for several years. His cubs played with my oldest boy. I remember hunters hunting him on one occasion, I warned them they would be surprised to find how protected the pack…with what wolf in his sites the next day. I stepped in front of that hunter and sat down. To his amazement the pack came to me and darted around as my boy was petting several of them, I mentioned to the hunter this was my family and land, if he persisted he would have to deal with me..that was 40 years ago give or take…..my son is still there and cares for his pack along with his own family. Life is very beautiful that way Inno way are his wolves tame and all wild animals should be respected
@SalemElloit
@SalemElloit Жыл бұрын
I've noticed with many stories, that wolves act aggressively mainly when they are frightened, or injured. Obviously not saying one should or could go out and just pet a wild wolf, or even someone's pet wolf. However, from my understanding, is they are not innately aggressive unless feel they need to be. They are more wary of humans, and choose not to associate with us as much as they can. Just as coyotes are not naturally aggressive to humans.

@@kevinbeach8915 I have noticed that. Back in February where I lived at the time, a cougar got ahold of a 5 pound dog. You could hear it hissing and the dogs cries in the woodline that was behind my house. It explained why my dog was always scared to being outside alone, even though we had a fence up around the yard. Recently moving to where I live now, I was sitting outside with him and had 5 black vultures start circling overhead. They went away almost immediately when I told him to go into the house. Even foxes are scared of us. I had one curious fox when I was outside at night smoking get curious and try to sneak up to my car. I was watching a show on my phone, and once I realized it was there, it ran away immediately 😅

I believe he was Timber/red wolf and had the prettiest coat I’ve ever seen. He also had the fastest jaws I’ve seen. I could hit a tennis ball at him with a racket as fast as I could and he could catch it out of the air almost every time from about 20-30 feet away facing me…regardless of a bad bounce he just snatched it out of the air. He also would chase my dirt bike and bite at the rear tire as if he was trying to sever the tendon on the back of some imaginary deers heel.

It's a nice story, and it might even be true; wolves are extremely intelligent. Our neighbor had a half-wolf pet, and even though it got excited and bit me as a child, it was a good guard and protector. That said, people should never forget, "Nature, red in tooth & claw" is dangerous. One need look no further than the hippy-dippy self-styled "Grizzly Man" Tim Treadwell and his girlfriend Amie Huguenard. The recording sounds like something out of a horror film...

True or not, things like this do happen. My Father and maternal Grandfather went deer hunting one day, and driving along a road looking for a good place to search, they came upon a doe who had tried to jump the barb wire fence along the road and got hung up on it. They carefully approached her, and she did not flinch at all or try to get away. She held perfectly still the whole time they worked to free her, lifting her off the wires, and they were able to let her go back to the woods with fairly minimal injuries. My Grandfather was one of the best horse whisperers I've ever known, and maybe that had something to do with it, but they both agreed the doe absolutely knew that they were trying to help her. Mind you, they never did get a deer that year. We always felt they were so affected by the experience that their hearts weren't really in it that year.

I had a wolf hybrid as a pet a few years back. One of the most amazing animals to ever be in my life. We would have group howls every time my family and I returned home from a day away. She was the most incredible hiking and camping companion. Always off- leash and she never strayed from my side. She also had a mothering instinct and would snuggle with my mother’s kitten. She didn’t like just anybody either and would warn people she didn’t like with a single, low growl. I always trusted her instinct in regards to other people.

@Mapleaple
@Mapleaple Жыл бұрын
@@MollyHJohns She was small. Around 55 pounds. The males I think grow much larger but they are not massive like other wolfs. The are the pack sort. They are borderline dogs. Their tendencies are diffrent then dogs. They can dissappear for a whole day or longer out in the forest. She usually had blood stains around her mouth I think hunting small prey. She is a bit aggressive around food but got better around 2 years old. She showed her fangs a lot but not towards any family members, just things like a moose, beavers and occasionally rare a bear. She peeded on trees marking the surrounding treeline and further in especially if it had bear scratch marks on the pine trees. She never really drank from a dog bowl and preferred to drink out of a river near our house. Hated dry dog kibble and where we lived dog food is hard to come by. We fed her raw chicken and goats if we could hunt one. Her main diet was actually deer mean or venison meat if you prefer. My wof never liked to sleep inside but slepted out in a shed we handmade. I was small during this time. Oh and if she was good and I caught a rainbow trout I would cut the fish up and give it to her so she wouldn't actually eat the small bones in the fish. Great animals to have. Nothing too special they just look like a rougher version of a husky, just more timid and hyper aware, loved to howl too when the other packs of wolfs were around, but she never really hung out with them...least to my knowledge.

My father had a wolf when I was young, still in diapers. But I have memories of her strong to this day, now 44. I remember seeing her poo in the yard and I would pull my diaper down and Pooh in the front yard to. 😂 😂 Would try to climb up on her by grabbing her coat and pull . She would growl like hell but never harm me. She had some serious mother instinct. One of the other strong memories is being at sheriff's possi park and walking up to the lake, she would get in front of me not letting me get to close to the lake. Wolves are some special breeds of living existence. Now coming up on 5 years from an addiction that lasted since I was a teen. I'm nearly in the position to have a friend like her again . 👍

I saw a program once about Yellowstone. It told that a man noticed how on the old accounts (stories and pictures) the river was much faster and clearer. Photos showed big trees and thick bushes on the banks, where nowadays was noticeably less. (Bigger bushes and trees have roots strong / wide enough to prevent soil from washed away by water) Reason -- settlers came in with their livestock, and eventually killed off all the wolves. Local elk and such could then happily munch on young saplings at their hearts content, without having to peek continuously over their shoulders or dashing away in the middle of the meal. About 30 yrs ago wolves were reintroduced and are doing well.

Just be careful. Watch your children and pets carefully. He was there for a reason. Something drew him there. Remember wolves are Apex predators , that means there is nothing they they won't kill for food. If you hear a noise, or your dog barks at night be very careful about going out to investigate. Wolves will lure you out past your comfort zone, and get between you and your safe place. If you let that happen your ass is dinner. Bears and wolverine and mountain lions will do this too. This is why so many people go missing in the wilderness. Apex predators are ALWAYS thinking about their next meal. Don't be on the menu because you want a picture of the beautiful animal.

Odd story: my friend in Michigan had a giant male wolf hanging around his house after the wolf had its way with his female pitbull. The wolf came back regularly to visit his son and befriended the whole family.... including the pitbull. All's well that ends well. When the house caught fire yrs later....the wolf was there.... crashing thru a window and howling at the top of his lungs. Everyone made it out safely to find 10 more wolves outside with the oldest son. The boy was playing a video game in the family room while everyone else was asleep and didn't know the house was burning until the wolf pulled him back out the window after breaking thru it. Having been asleep upstairs...it's my belief the wolves were waiting to storm the house if nobody came out because they were all males. No females or pups in sight. After that...cookouts were more interesting as the whole pack would show up to hangout with the humans they saved.

My goddaughter would lay on her and watch TV. I have always loved wolves and how smart and beautiful they are. It's like they are Majestic. And if this story is true I just want to say God bless this man for saving this family!

This reminds me of the time I saved the life of a goose flying south for the winter. It had landed at a pond next to the stable I worked at and was taking an early morning drink. I had just gotten to a stopping point and had walked over to contemplate life. A neighbors dog had gotten loose, which wasn’t uncommon. This particular dog was very aggressive and known to kill animals. It also was sneaking up on the goose. Thinking quickly I called the dogs name (which I forget) and the goose realized what was happening and crouched down out of fear, I guess. The dog came bounding to me, I seized it’s broken leash and walked it back to the stable and put her in a pen. Arriving back to wave goodbye, the goose took off and flew two full circles directly over me. Every few years, I find that a flock of geese will circle over my head seemingly at random when I’m at that farm. It makes me tear up every time, I wish more people would be good to animals.

When really large birds like heron or geese take off, they circle to gain altitude. Likewise, they may circle prior to landing so they can descend at a more controlled rate (and probably also to get a good evaluation of their landing spot, for safety sake).

All the more amazing is that, despite closely related to dogs, wolves are one of the hardest animals to tame. It's very difficult to gain trust of a wolf. To gain the trust of the wolf, you can't just befriend it, you have to be accepted as their family.

Dogs have evolved to naturally view humans as family, wolves are just also some of the least bigoted animals out there. They'll even play with ravens, turns out they taught them fetch.

Disclaimer: I basically wrote a book. So, you could probably just read the first paragraph and then the second-last paragraph, for the parts that actually reply to this comment. 🫢🤣 ~~ Your wife might not love that statement but the fact (imo anyway) is that most people who have ever truly bonded with a canine love them more than people. End of story. Well, except for the possible exception of one's children; who also (for at least the first 10+ years or so.. lol) like dogs, and unlike (sadly) many spouses, tend to love *unconditionally*. In my family, consisting of generations of Shepherd owners, we just all acknowledge that dogs are better overall, so no one gets offended by that fact 🐕🫶💯 We used to be a St Bernard 🐶 family, but, as a kid, when we lived in the country (where you could feasibly own a St Bernard lol), we had a beautiful Wolf/Shepherd cross. Not a planned addition to the family (took over from unprepared neighbour) or an intentional cross (obviously), but she was amazing nonetheless. She changed our thoughts about what canine traits seemed ideal for our family. And while we weren't about to go out and try to get wolf-dogs; we definitely don't want to increase the already existing (again, sadly) market for them, which is horrible for wolves; but because of the shared traits of high-level intelligence, protective nature, and unshakeable loyalty shepherds share with wolves; combined with the comparatively more laid back disposition of pure shepherds, we have all owned exclusively shepherds ever since. So our former wolf-dog, though long since passed on, has left an indelible mark on us all. And still missing your dog years later is totally common and perfectly understandable. My previous dog was a rescued Shepherd. We were such a good fit, so, despite losing her just under 6 yrs ago now, when she was 13 (which, btw, at the time, made her the longest lasting relationship in my life xD), I still miss her like crazy. And sometimes someone will say something or another dog will do something; and however much one might like to think the grieving is done, I'll suddenly find myself teary-eyed all over again. Admittedly, the grief is likely made worse by not having had another dog since. Unfortunately, I'm not in the best position to own one at the moment. And, since (as we hopefully all know by now) dog ownership isn't just about what the person can gain from having a dog, but is also, even more importantly, about what the dog would gain by being with that person; as heartbreaking as it can feel sometimes; I have to frequently remind myself that this 'rule' applies to me too, and refrain from getting one. Definitely a big gap in my life though - I really miss having a dog. 😭
