pretty cool. somebody lent me a metal detector when on vacation in florida & i became addicted. i only found coins & odds & ends & my arm was killing me from the weight, but they had to drag me away from it...i was so sure i would find a long lost treasure of blackbeards....lol!

actually, i was down on the east coast of florida in sebastian, sebastian inlet & vero beach. its pretty famous for finding treasures. they even have 2 interesting treasure museums in the town of sebastian. the stories are fascinating. 1700's spanish galleons & french ships going down in storms with fortunes aboard (not to mention all the lives lost & some stories of survivors who made to land & set up camps). so even today, after strong storms, treasures are still found tossed up to shore. plus there are salvage ships who buy the rights to certain areas out at sea to look for sunken treasures, & millions of dollars worth have been found. i would do it again.

John M if it's private land just ask land owner permission and you are sorted. public land is a grey area as some places you can and can't..beaches are ok,tricky subject on moors. you will find alot in england, roman viking,english,ww2 bombs, people,stone age,bronze age etc etc island been inhabited for a long long long time...also don't dig big mounds, especially around Wiltshire (stone henge county i think) the mounds are mass burial sites from preolific times or something like that. plenty to find,also the channel islands (biggest roman finds ever aside from england/britian,must have been stashed and owner killed in battle)

Yes, definitely don't clean them with any kind of metal cleaner. Consult with a coin dealer on how to clean dirt off of a coin without destroying the coin's value. Most likely just use water and a soft towel. Great find though! Might be worth about $100 since you can read the date. I could not find it in my 2012 Red Book. Back then they used coins from many countries as a means of exchange. Keep that coin and give it to your grandkids sometime, when they are old enough. As for the Victory Music? It's overused. Find something else.

Coins are fun and often easy to date. My oldest find so far is a armoured stirup from the late medieval period. Dated to last half of the 1500s.

That coin may have been already laying in that creek. When the soldiers were marching through there! Great recovery! My best find was a Clovis spear point I found laying in a ditch. After a week of heavy rains.10-12.000 years old. Not with my metal detector but a great find! Nice video!

Very cool! Just did my first ever water hunt today. Dateless Indian, tombac button, couple small caliber musket balls and fishing weights. Really enjoyed it. Should come on up sometime. I got a really good spot to check out. Civil war has been recovered before!

Nice G3 Ha'penny, congrats. We find them quite often over here in the Uk, in case you didn't already know, its an Irish mint coin which could go some way to explain how it got there. Are you anywhere near Virginia? If so it was around that period that England sent their convicts to the colonies out there and rightly or wrongly, there were a lot of Irishmen amongst them.

Doesn't need an Irish worker. George III sen't a LOT of Irish (or as they were called at the time Hibernia) pennies and half pennies to the American colonies when the issue proved unpopular in Ireland (America was so desperate for coins they'd take anything.)

I have George penny like yours dated 1760. Found it my change when I was a kid in England before we left for Canada in1957. Fuck that was a long time ago
