How about somewhere in the Blue Ridge of northern Georgia-western North Carolina? The eastern continental divide region is different from the heart of Appalachia that was scarred physically and culturally by industrial coal mining.

Maybe you want to tell us if giving birth is painful? You know, since you like to talk about things that you have no experience with. I'm a person of color and I went to grade and middle school in Grafton, WV then went to high school in both Wheeling and Bluefield. I can tell you that racism is engrained in mountain culture. There is a very, very small percent of the population that is not bigoted but by and large its the norm. I jumped on Greyhound a few days after turning 18 and never looked back. Now I want to hear you tell us how gravity is on the moon..again since you've not actually experienced it.

Back in '71 we ( Princeton Tigers) had a wrestling match with Man. The snow storm started just as we got there and we ended up getting snowed in. We spent the night in the gym, on the mat with one army blanket each. Somehow the exhaust fan in the gym got turned on... geez it got cold in there... froze our behinds off! One of those nights that you're glad to see the sun come up!

That big empty parking lot and concrete pad before you got to the high school is the former location of one of the original memorial hospitals built by the United Mine Workers in the mid-50s. It was where most victims of Buffalo Creek were cared for before the overwhelming number could be sent out to other facilities. It was closed around the year 2000, abandoned and finally demolished a little more than 10 years later. Sad story.

As an American who had never stepped foot in the Appalachian mountains, put this place on your bucket list my Aussie brother! I have been as far north as Alaska, far south as Baja California. Been thru the Cascades, Rockies, Sawtooths, Chugach and now the Appalachias. Yellowstone, Joshua Tree, Glacier, Yosemite and now the New River Gorge Honestly thought I'd seen it all, but the Appalachias blew my mind. The mountains, terrain and sprawling deciduous forest is absolutely epic and breathtakingly beautiful. The way the rivers, creeks and streams thread their way thru the land is like nothing is ever seen. Like driving thru a postcard, no exaggeration. If you are an outdoors person, you will love what you find. The state motto of "Wild and Wonderful" has been uttered by myself many times upon bearing witness to state's seemingly endless wonder. I love West Virginia thru and thru 😍

One thing about living in that part of the country is that if you lived there 20,30, 40 or more years ago, lot of things are pretty much the same, I am from Bluefield, and not much has changed there since I left there in 1974. I consider that a good thing

Salt Peter Caves near Livingston KY would be an interesting tale… Salt Peter was mined there during the Civil War for munitions, and later it became a tourist attraction for many to see what’s under the ground. It was closed down for a period of time, but has reopened recently and I’m sure it would be a great addition to your Appalachian series

He was working on an assignment for the Felts Detective Agency in Matewan, WVA., (by the way, it is pronounced Mat-a- wan). C.T. Higgins was one of 7 men killed in the "Matewan Massacre" on May 19, 1920. The Felts Detectives were waiting to board the train to Galax.

You should look into the story of the Martin-Tolliver Feud in Morehead, KY. In a sense it was considered worse than the Hatfield-McCoy Feud. The state militia had to come in twice, courthouse was burned, and almost caused Rowan County, KY to lose a county seat and Annex back to Morgan and Fleming Counties.

I'm surprised I found your channel. I'm right here in ashland, ky. You should come and visit some time and maybe some old towns that technically don't exist anymore here in boyd and lawrence county.

You should come explore Philippi WV or just Barbour County WV all together. Philippi was the site of the first Land Battle of the civil war.

I had the opportunity to meet people from Man Wva in the 80s and I think about em alot cause I wonder if most of the guys I met are still living cause they were some really good people. I still know their names although I do good to remember names of people that I grew with lol. I'd say the names but I don't know if they do the KZbin thing as much as I do. Tatoo Charley pops in mind cause he Tatood me lol...I hope he's doing well and still kicking

The towns may look dilapidated but you wo t find better people in country. Most West Virginians would give the shirt off their backs to a total stranger.
