Oh helll nah!
Submechanophobia:
a fear of submerged human-made objects, either partially or entirely underwater. These objects could be shipwrecks, statues, animatronics as seen in theme parks, or old buildings, but also more mundane items such as buoys and miscellaneous debris.
Thanks for watching!

Aw don't worry about that. It's not pitch black. We're surrounded by so many stars. Without light pollution, the night sky would still provide light, especially during the times the moon is half or more lit. The moon light can cast shadows! Nothing will be taking away our distant stars or our moon, so we will always have light during the night.

FINALLY!!!!! Submechanophobia is so interesting because its almost like your brain is trying to correct itself by saying "this thing does not belong in water, therefore it must be a threat". To me there is something is creepy and unsettling about metal products being submerged in water, even if they are meant to be there. Even boats freak me out. I'm not afraid of being ON the boat but if i am beside the boat in the water I start to get such anxiety. Knowing that the hull goes under but I cant see it is terrifying.

This is actually one reason I’m signing up for scuba classes. I’ll always be too phobic to go down alone or let someone else do something stupid, but I also have been forcing myself into exposure therapy to overcome it. Heights? Get close to the edge just outside of comfort zone for more confidence. Don’t like water? Time to dunk my head off the kayak with goggles on I love everything in the water, my main fear is more of “it knows you aren’t food, but it mistakes you for food, and their way of hunting is hit to kill then come back when it stops struggling to not get injured” like car accidents you can’t hear or sometimes see coming

Dude when I was younger I always wondered why I had this anxiety. Something about man made objects in the ocean throw me the F off. I’m not that afraid of Walter itself but the ocean does give me the creeps. But it’s just seeing huge man made objects like a ship or plane or other weird shit in the ocean gives me the absolute worst anxiety. I just watched this video recently of a guy throwing his GoPro into the ocean off of a Cruise ship and when I saw the belly of the cruise ship and the propeller It gave me stupid anxiety. I'm starting to think my submechanophobia is just an extension of my thalassophobia, bc the main fear for me is sunken crafts. Like, a thing that was *made* to go out on the water is now underneath it. And it's not necessarily something in the ocean that made the vessels sink, but the ocean itself and that really just describes my overall fear. Haven't watched one of your submechanophobia videos in a while so this one really freaked me out 😅 it was good tho! The vibes are immaculate, as always

The propeller pic immediately made me realize what this phobia is about. It’s not a fear of the objects themselves, it’s a fear of not knowing how they got there
@heather9130
@heather9130 Жыл бұрын
For me it's a fear of the unknown. If I see a structure descend into the water, what does it look like below the surface? What creatures are using it for shelter? For the propeller, what is on the other side of it that I can't see? It's a dark side of the moon feeling. What if it starts moving?? I cannot stand the idea of being underneath boats looking up at them, like having to do maintenance in the water noooooooo. So wild, I never heard of this phobia before.

This! The oil rigs and coral boats don't activate my fear because they were put there on purpose, but I get the heebie-jeebies from planes and those trees that float vertically because neither of those belong in the water (side note- what do you call submechanophobia if the object is naturally-occurring but not naturally in/under the water?)

Random bit of trivia, the wreck seen at 5:47 is of a supertanker called Amoco Cadiz that ran aground about 2km off the coast of Brittany in France in the process spilling about 223000 t of crude oil in the 12 largest oil spill in history, and yet the strangest part of the whole saga is that the bow of the ship which is what is poking out of the water in the photo actually disappeared and to my knowledge hasn't been found yet.

When I was younger, there was a gravel pit that got converted into a swimming hole. Trees had grown in it, I guess, and they were just left there when it filled with water. So you would be swimming along and look down, and there'd be these tree branches emerging up from the depths, sometimes brushing your toes. Never freaked me out too badly, but i can easily imagine something like that being terrifying. The fish there were super bitey, too. They loved the taste of toes, and would bite yours a lot.

Before watching this and actually learning that this is an actual phobia whenever I'd go swimming and had swimming goggles on I always thought to myself how weird it was that I felt somehow uncomfortable just because there were objects right infront of me underwater, and it was even weirder that I'm actually fascinated with things such as underwater shipwrecks, but when I actually stopped and tried to think over how I was feeling I'd be like "why" so much that now I've kind of worked over it irl but those images still made me a bit uncomfortable

At this point you’re gonna have to give a years notice if you ever decide to stop KZbin. I’ve commented before but you’re my favorite channel idk the whole “vibe” you bring to your videos makes them super watchable plus you never overreact and just feel genuine. Cliche remarks but it’s true brother keep going as long you’re motivated please !

The kayak one doesn't give me anxiety from popping or from worrying about what's underneath, but it's insane to me that they voluntarily decided to kayak inside basically a building-sized cage that they presumably don't know if it's stable or not. Alongside, sure; inside, that's a no from me dawg

I live twenty minutes away from a nuclear power plant where most of our town works. my dad was a fuel handler for 36 years there. It's crazy to think he saw that all the time. He was in charge of the spent fuel bundles, which are stored in 'heavy water'. They use uranium, which is also mined north of here. Much love from Canada.

The vertical wreck of HMS Victoria off the coast of Tripoli is a particularly scary sight as it sank straight down bow first and plunged into the soft sea bed by several meters so the ship is completely vertical. As divers descend on the wreck they encounter the stern first with the big propellers and then carry on down the hull into the dark depths. Gives me shivers every time I watch a video of it.😬

Future video suggestion: maybe look at the art of Simon Stalenhag? I don't know whether or not you've ever heard of him, but his art is really cool and I feel like it would fit in pretty well with the vibe of this channel and would be a really awesome video. Idk, just a suggestion.

For me I only have a slight phobia of active under water machinery. Large propellers on sunken ships doesn't scare me at all it's only active machinery such as large pumps or drains. For example. Imagine falling into a water reserve pit at a treatment plant with a large pump running while you were in it. Or Imagine you are kayaking near a hydroelectric dam and happen to get sucked into the inlet were water flows to power the turbines.

Standing in the engine room of a cargo/cruise ship while it’s turning on was the most exhilarating adrenaline filled rush I’ve had ever in my life. I haven’t even felt that sense of helplessness or fear in a car accident that nearly killed me. I was lowkey petrified, however, it was cool asf, would do again now that I’m older still don’t like the thought of it but something in me wants to do it again.

I wouldn’t necessarily say mine is a phobia. It’s more of a fixation that, depending on context, either entrances me or paralyzes me. For example, Atlantica in the Little Mermaid, entrancing. The Monstro fight in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, paralyzing. Just depends.

Seeing things submerged in the water that are dark that are very large definitely sets off some instinctual fear and innate need to stay away probably due to predators in the water over the period of human existence and the dark and unknown and seeing something under the water that is large that you could get sucked into or stuck under it just gives you that anxious uncomfortable feeling like it could be alive but it’s not like you don’t want it behind you or out of your sight or underneath you. Also anything that’s very large and metal underwater gives me fear because it gives me the fear that it could crush me

This comes really close to the only thing I am actually afraid of: big things / human made objects ~partially~ under water (for me big things also includes big rocks nearby, but only if I am looking at them (rocks or manmade objects) when I am in the water and the 'thing' is partially submerged, the fear goes away when I am fully underwater or the thing is fully underwater..) Sound weird but that's what it is lol

The underwater mechanical shark reminds me of a little story from the making of Jaws. Spielberg made the Bruce for his movie because he didn't want to use miniatures, and one of them actually failed while being used in an open ocean shot and is still at the bottom of the ocean somewhere
