When hired as a controllerI had to take a psychological exam. An annual physical that required blood work and an EKG, hearing and eye exams which I was required to pass for 30 years. A person with dwarfism would have a tough time accessing the information screens at controller positions.

Trump was reading FAA DEI initiatives, the fact they are specifically looking to hire dwarfs says that they are more interested in ticking wokes boxes than choosing the best candidates. There may be thousands of people with dwarfism who would make outstanding ATCs, but they need to apply in the same way as everyone else and not get preferential treatment. That's part of Trumps point. Some of the other groups on that list however should never be allowed in a control tower or cockpit.

Have you actually talked to anyone involved in the hiring process for FAA positions. I have not, therefore I will not pretend to be an expert. But if you want to know a little bit about dwarfism, would be glad to discuss that with you because my 25 year old son has it. He is a police dispatcher, and no DEI did not get him hired. After 5 years of working there, an officer did tell him that he did not want him hired because of the dwarfism, but now says that my son is an excellent dispatcher.

He named "dwarfism" because it's in the DEI hiring requirements. Those requirements had nothing to do with the skills and ability to do the job. The requirements were designed to give the first applicant on the DEI list a job. There are others from the FAA who have said that Trump is right.

What this is all leading too, is validated unambigous criteria and tests for jobs. Candidates take test, highest score wins. This will in effect will require a massive effort. Also if candidates are interviewed (because of job criteria), it needs to be done under blind conditions.

I did some serious reflecting on the DEI controversy and this is what I have come to understand. The idea of diversity, equity and inclusion is a great humanitarian endeavor that has merit. However, the methods in which it is being deployed is flawed. Forcing it by law and regulation actually works to establish road blocks to it's implantation. No one like things forced on them. Too, the real value in DEI is when it comes organically, by establish the necessary environment for it to flourish, without force. Trump's point is that there's certain extremely important jobs that people with certain disabilities shouldn't do for all number of reasonable reasons. This video doesn't mention it but many people with dwarfism dont live very long lives and often and other significant health issues that can impact thier performance. We know the last transport secretary was a DEI hire because he gay. Under bootyjudge tenure we had the Baltimore bridge inccident, the east Palestine derailment and chemical spill, people trapped for weeks in several major disaster areas etc. Why this major traffic air route in highly sensitive airspace was being understaffed remains to be scene but would probably be just another failure in the management of our transport infrastructure.

But, to your general point; there's a reason so few female are firefighters, construction workers, truck drivers, pilots, etc. Would we want a 5' 4", 120 pound woman trying to carry a 6' 1", 230 pound man out of a burning building, or even a 5' 6" 150 pound woman? There no Mexicans in professional basketball. Almost all jobs have physical (and or intellectual) requirements. If you don't meet those requirements; YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB!

None of those disasters were in any way affected by the sexual orientation of the Head of Transportation Buttigieg. In fact the train wreak was due to the ancient braking systems on the train that were supposed to be upgraded per an Obama administration directive but Trump canceled that Obama Executive Order. So congratulations it was Trump's fault. You might try actually using your brain, instead of fixating on an individual private sex life. That’s not a good example, let me make this simple for you: DEI lets anyone tryout and makes sure people of color and disabled people get access, they don’t make the team if they can’t play at the level of the NBA. The same with the FAA, if they can’t play pass the training and play on the level of ATC’s they can work in the field, the DEI makes sure women and people of color, or people who have disabilities can have a shot at the job. So if a short guy is good enough to play in the NBA, they won’t be overlooked. It’s not giving the jobs or drafting someone who’s not qualified to the NBA. It’s making sure everyone has a shot.
