I think what you're seeing is mostly the caramelization. They don't look dry, but most cake need syrup before filling and covering.

My husband requested a vanilla and brownie swirl cake for his 30th birthday. I nixed the swirl and did 2 layers of your vanilla cake with your brownie recipe in the middle (and chocolate buttercream all around). I could eat that vanilla cake all. day. long. Brownie layer was great, too!

Its very important to appreciate a cake with organic substitutions. Don't know have many times I've seen a cake that should've had fruit in them to only have edible pastery with fruit flavor just... Yeah it is. He travels there from where he lives(Atlanta) and films like 6 or so episodes at a time. He hangs out with the camera crew and they’re all his best friends.(he told me that lol)
