Negative thoughts are a common struggle athletes face when trying to perform at their best. In this video, Dr. Greg Young, PhD, CMPC, Manager of Coaching and Development at IMG+, discusses a strategy to manage negative thoughts that allows athletes to put themselves in a position to be successful. Athletes should strive to catch themselves when experiencing a negative thought, check whether the thought is useful for them, and change negative thoughts with more helpful self-talk. Just like changing tires in a pit stop at a formula 1 race, this strategy will help athletes stay in the race and set themselves for success.
