Manassas National Battlefield Park has a Confusing Trail System.

Is it acceptable for an experienced hiker to get lost on a hike? Is it acceptable for such experienced hiker to get lost on a hike when the hike is mostly along an open plain? Manassas National Battlefield Park is primarily an open plan, so I found that often I knew where I was, but not quite sure exactly where I was.
