Thanks for the update. Nothing more annoying than track issues. I had a turnout that some cars just kept derailing on. Changed trucks, changed wheels, snipped off the fake hose from the Kadee #5s. Checked weight, added weight. Still, some jumped the frogs. Changed the turnout and no more problem. Good to see the trains running! - Paul

Yeah - sometimes it’s best to just tear it out and move on with a new one. I probably should do a little more trackwork to get to where I’m running trains more frequently to spot issues before I finish a scene. I tested, not well apparently!

Good thing you got to the track defect when you did. Would of been a bigger ordeal if you had more stuff down. Looking forward to seeing some Ops ran through that trackwork now! - Jason

A piece of masking tape takes the ballast neatly off the top of the ties

Eh, it happens. Nice job on the repair. Cars will track differently depending on the situation so a wide spot can hide. Have a wide spot on a friend's layout where locos will go fine in either direction through a turnout but if you shove or pull cars through the divergent route in facing point move they try to go straight. Fun times.

Oh man that would be annoying! In my case of course it’s on the expensive CURVED turnout instead of a cheaper one so I was trying to avoid replacing it.

John Davinchi at work on the master piece 😊…I’ve got one of those “sometimers”…the engine will run through the switch 9 times; 10 time derails 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Haha! Right. That 10th time would drive me nuts. The turnout would have to be replaced!

John, I agree with many of the other comments, that scene really does look good. Also, like the one about being half way to building your own turnouts! Since your plastic ties were glued down (and were also fixed in place by the ballast) you might have tried spiking the rails in gauge at each of the existing plastic ties. Your solution is obviously highly effective (and bullet proof) but required the lovely process of removing ballast. Keep up the good work! scott

Thank you Scott! It wasn’t too bad to remove it. Shop vac did a lot of damage control…! Hope you’re well my friend.

In the future you may try staggering your rail joints. Far fewer issues when the joints aren’t across from each other, especially on curves. Also a good excuse to build your own turnout.
@johnarthur6302
@johnarthur6302 Жыл бұрын
Yeah - coming off the curved turnout forced me to do both rails in the same spot. For some reason I am hesitant to attempt my own turnouts!

@@johnarthur6302 They really aren’t difficult. With a little practice anyone can do it. You already have the soldering skills so your half way there! The irony is that once you are proficient it will only take you about 45 min to build one from scratch. Probably less time than it took to troubleshoot this one :)

Doesn't everyone have to go back and fix track sometimes multiple times? By the way ,howmany of us ony paint one side of the track if it can't be seen from the viewing angle.
