President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined the people of Mandaue City in the commemoration of its 49th anniversary as a Chartered City.
In his speech, the President urged the local government and the people to continue to “support the administration's task to provide a comfortable life for all,” including its campaign against illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption.
“Together, let us succeed in our collective aspiration to attain a better life, (and) brighter future for our countrymen,” he said.
President Duterte also discouraged any form of corruption to thrive in the government, saying that the Philippines would not see economic progress if peace and order is not attained, and if corruption continues to persist.
“We need everyone’s help in ridding this nation of these ills that have long hampered our development as a nation,” he added.
During the course of the program, National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Marcelino Escalada, Jr. briefed the President about the Mandaue City-NHA Low Rise Housing Project in Barangay Looc, which aims to provide low cost housing for the informal settlers and the urban poor families living in the city.
Mandaue City, dubbed as the 'little rich city' in the Philippines, houses several industrial and commercial businesses that contributed to its recognition as a highly urbanized city in 1991.
