Doh! The same root notes as the bottom four strings of a guitar, but upside down????? I feel dumb not realising this. So very, very dumb. Doh! Thanks, Tom.

Tom, you gave me exactly what I was looking for. There are way too many youtube videos that don’t cut to the chase and have to much BS. You’re right on the money for someone that already knows how to play guitar. Thanks!

Excellent Tom. It never occurred to me the idea of flipping upside down the notes. The layout of 5ths already offers different chord possibilities for my exploring the mandolin. Thanks for the post.

Nice video Tom! When you make your follow-up video, the next thing to cover is the "chop chord" or the closed 4-finger position chords, I look forward to it. And some discussion on the pick, I use giant triangle picks. (Dunlops & Claytons.) All the best..

Tom, I came across your video with Paul Davids a few days ago and I admire your passion for guitars and different types of guitars. I was wondering if you've heard of the Portuguese guitar? It's a beautiful instrument and if you haven't, I think you'll find it very interesting!

Yes I'm familiar with a Portuguese guitar. I believe it's kind of like a high 12-string. It's on my list to add to my collection.

I do not yet own a mandolin but I am looking at getting one soon, this video is an absolutely fantastic resource that I will be saving and referring back to once I've purchased my own! Thank you so much! Love your content

That's exactly why I did it. I probably should've made it 3 videos as the retention is not great, but I love videos like this as I'll bookmark them and go back and again until I'm through it.

Thanks Tom, really helpful to compare both instruments and how you mastered it. Make some more please!

Haha, I don't know about mastering it but I would love spending more time on it. A couple of weeks ago I spent a couple days playing only mandolin for the Call of Duty game. And thanks for the tip! It means a lot.

The mandolin is very easy to pick up if you know the guitar. Good lesson.
