8 MM is indeed a criminally underrated film. It has one of the most unsettling and morbid plots you can think of. And the scariest thing about it... is that it corresponds to our reality way too much by showing us one of the many disgusting faces of the world we live in. Cage and Phoenix deliver solid performances in it as well, so I kind of find myself compelled to recommend it. Go and check it out... at your own risk.
