Hands down the best review/tutorial on this palette. I have watched several and none of them were even close to something I would wear everyday. I’m still not buying it, I think I can come up with similar looks within my current collection and I’m “paletted out” at the moment after several months of subscription boxes. Your advice is very sound and appreciated. I can spend $45 to have something pretty to look at from time to time 😬

I love your tutorials. They're easy to follow and look real! Thanks so much for this video! I usually wear neutral eyeshadows, but I bought the Riviera palette. (I know...what was I thinking?) I love the ABH eyeshadow formula, and this was back when they only released 1-2 palettes a year, so I got caught up in all the hype and purchased it. I think I regretted it as soon as I got it home and attempted to use it. I tried a few looks in the months I have had it, but they were all too vibrant for me. I have never used a white eyeshadow before, and wasn’t sure what to do with it; then, I watched your video! I used the palette today and created a pink/purple look incorporating the white, and while it is still outside of my comfort zone, it was very wearable, and I liked it a lot. I am pretty comfortable with wearing bright colors (especially on Saturdays when I'm not sitting at my desk job--haha), but your tip to tone down bright colors by going in lightly and using with a matte white is a great one. It's amazing how big of a difference application techniques can make. I wish more palettes had a true matte white--I have a million palettes with a matte beige or matte tan, but rarely see palettes with a true white. No need to be intimidated by shades in palettes that are labeled "pressed pigment" instead of "pressed eyeshadow." The only reason they label them that way is because they can stain your eyelids when you use them on the eyes, so the companies cannot legally tell you, "THESE ARE EYE SAFE. USE THEM ON YOUR EYES." Just about every shade I see labeled "pressed pigment" in a palette instead of "eye shadow" is some form of red, pink, or purple, (or brown that has undertones of one of those colors). Those colors are basically impossible to create as vibrant shades without them staining your skin. It's kind of a funny legal quirk, because literally everyone who buys the palette is going to use those shades on their eyes and probably nowhere else... and the companies know that... but they can't label them as products for the eyes because of the possible staining. (And I think this is only a US thing; my understanding is that in Europe and various other places, they are still considered eye safe even though they are the exact same thing.) Edit/PS: I think the reactions to this palette have been pretty interesting. A lot of makeup enthusiasts who really love color and usually gravitate toward brands like Juvia's Place and Sugar Pill initially got super excited about this palette, then purchased it and decided it wasn't colorful enough (mostly because they felt like the only true brights were the matte pink and matte purple)--they wanted the matte yellow to be brighter and wanted a matte blue to be added and thought all the lighter/transition type mattes were way too similar to each other. Then a lot of makeup enthusiasts (like you) who like neutrals but are interested in using a little color think this palette is kind of intimidating and that they won't use it much. I think ABH was trying really hard to listen to the demands for a more colorful palette but they were too scared to do an all colorful palette and alienate their neutral-loving customer base. The neutral lovers think it's too much color, and the colorful lovers think it's too much neutral. They were trying to please everybody and ended up only pleasing a few right in the middle between color and neutral. Thanks Kiera! Very interesting thoughts on this palette! And I can definitely see the truth in that. It's tough, and I think this is the trouble with companies (not just ABH) coming out with so many releases so close to each other. I did like this palette a lot but my experience with the three pinks in here seeming very similar in tone made the palette feel a little rushed and thrown together. I know I am just one person and this is just my opinion, but I would have LOVED to see them take out two of the pinks and throw in a rich Navy and maybe a richer gold to go along with the nautical packaging. It would've felt a little more ABH to me, while still being different. I did really love the purple in here though, and would not normally gravitate to that shade. And I didn't notice bad staining on me with the pinks, though I use them much more light handed than some:)
