Wow! This is quite an eye-opener. I never really appreciated what damn good musicians they were - even Klaus Voorman on bass! No wonder they always looked so totally pissed off having to play their hit records in this country all the time. Mike d'Abo used to live just down the road from me in Stroud until the royalties from Handbags and Gladrags started pouring in a few years ago. He's moved up in the world now!

Bloody hell. Chops or what. This, like most other Manfred Mann 60s instrumentals I've heard, is brilliant. Weird how so many great musicians became so insufferable in the 70s (I'm thinking about most jazz-rock tedium). What was it about the 60s which produced not only brilliant little mini-symphonies in terms of the arranging of pop hits but also such stylish adherence to one of the most important musical maxims... less is more.
