I can still remember the day I bought this album right after it was released, and dropped the needle in the groove. I was 17 years old and the future looked bright as hell. Little did we know how it was really going to be...
@diego2112gaming4 жыл бұрын
Man, back when I was 17 the future was so bright I had to wear shades (yeah-cheesy reference). These days, man... It's music like this that keeps me going. Because it's a messed up crapshot.

Well, the future was never that bright, but it was certainly brighter then than now... And these guys, Manfred Mann, Billy Joel etc, after the Beatles and the Stones, gave us hope. They lifted mountains - now flattened and hopeless, I agree.

Such a classic rock song. It's 2023, an' I am still getting down to Quinn the Eskimo.

There was so much excellent Pop Music around in 1978 and 79. This here is one of the best examples - I was 14 then and got caught from the first note. We had Sniff'n' the Tears ("Driver's seat"), we had Christopher Cross ("Ride like the wind"), we had Peter Gabriel and Alan Parson's to dance to, we had Tangerine Dreams's "Cloudburst Flight", we had the second wave of British metal. It was such a privilege to grow up in this era - this sort of Music has become a lost art.
@edjours458 ай бұрын
Without being nostalgic - because time inevitably passes - I agree with you, and I see in the revival of many songs from this era the proof that many young people recognize this golden age. Which doesn't exclude the value of today's music, of course.

Great album. Grew up listening to this classic everynow and then. This kind of music lives from generation to generation.

Some tunes are so well written and performed they become legendary, anthems of an era, eternal reflections of divine providence, or simply put ... awesome. This is one of those tunes. It will live forever. While all the B tracks fade to dust the classics bear the torch of the greatest musicality known to humanity.
@rchoquette29756 жыл бұрын
there are No B tracks on this Entire lp however...

I was on the rare occasion to be in a bar with 3 other sound engineers plus myself and asked everyone to write down on a cocktail napkin what they all thought was the best live recording and we all 4 agreed that this was it ! No need to say anything else. Chet the chicken man / soundman 🐓🎼
@pgo3014 жыл бұрын
@@chetutterback5811 Well, they would be the best critics. But yes, Manfred Mann was certainly on top of his music knowledge. My favorite album of his came out in 1979 my senior year in high school (Angel Station) another work of art.

yes 3'22" :)
@toreeriksson61174 жыл бұрын
I agree in 2/3. In my opinion, the interlude from 2:15 to 4:57 totally ruined the masterpiece. Makes in just insufferable. But I fixed it my own way by simply cutting out those 2:42 of jazzy crap. ;)
@immortelle33 жыл бұрын
@@toreeriksson6117 I have to strongly oppose your opinion, this middle part is the best of it, sounding similiar to Deep Purple (being meant as a quality mark)

EPIC, Especially the intermezzo, midplay, 2.15 - 5.00. I was just a little child first time I heard it, and I was 'blown away' and at some point it was as if I had an OBE.

Great album, yes, and a scathing, hair-raising version of Dylan's Mighty Quinn - and at the same time completely faithful to the original, how does he do it? No matter: the best of M.M's Earth band is here!

Everybody's building ships and boats Some are building monuments Others jotting down notes Everybody's in despair Every girl and boy But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here Everybody's gonna jump for joy Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Let me do what I wanna do, I like my sugar sweet But jumping queues and making haste It ain't my cup of meat Everyone's beneath the trees feeding pigeons on a limb But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here All the pigeons gonna run to him Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Let me do what I wanna do, I like my sugar sweet But jumping queues and making haste Ain't my cup of meat Nobody can get no sleep, there's someone on everyone's toes But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here Everybody's gonna want to doze Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn Come all without, come all within You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn [repeat to fade]

It's "Manfred Mann" (without the Earth Band) second video if you search "Mighty Quinn Manfred Mann"
@RedLink277 жыл бұрын
Nope, it's still Manfred Mann. Just a re-imagined version of the late 60s original. Like buddy said, if you want the original just search up the Manfred Mann version without the "Earth Band" (Chris Thompson is singing this version, the original was Manfred Mann himself)
