Hi Andy, I own that head and modified it to Arca Swiss. I bought a 120mm Arca Swiss clamp and plate from Amazon. I attached the Manfrotto plate to the underside of the Utebit clamp and then leave the Manfrotto plate locked in the head. Attach the Arca Swiss plate to the lens foot and use as normal Arca Swiss. I also find it much easier to use the head in reverse so the pan lock is at the rear.

Hey, thanks didn't really know there was such a thing, would certainly help out alot, the plate I have now just loosen a bit every time I tighten the pan too much.. Need to try that out, thanks alot for the feed back! 😊🙏

Will the 120 Arca Swiss plate that comes with the clamp you reference also fit in other arca swiss clamps? Such as the Sirui VA 5 head clamp? Or alternatively, will the plate you reference accept other arca swiss plates? Like the Sirui TY-70? I want to end up with two tripods and heads that will accept the same plates on my large spotting scope and camera lenses. I use one light set up for wilderness canoe trips, and one heavier set up for use near my car or on day hikes.

I just got the new manfrotto 608 nitrotech fluid head, it's fantastic, the issues you mentioned no longer exist, attaching the lens is super easy, and there is no creep when letting go of the lens/gear, it can hold up to 17 lbs of gear, you can tilt the lens downwards or upwards and just let it go, it will stay in that position. I use it with my DSLR and 500mm prime lens, it has made my gimbal obsolete. This new 608 "I dont's want to sound like an advertisement" is super smooth and the drag system is fantastic. I will try to make a video when I get the chance. Will update this post when I do.

@@AndyGustavsson and yes, the only thing I don't like about the manfrotto fluid head is that proprietary plate, much better if it was Arca Swiss compatible, but I guess Manfrotto wanted to make sure "liability reasons, expensive gear getting damaged" that the head can hold the gear Manfrotto says it can hold. I have the older version, the 501, and to be fair, it IS my first "serious" tripod head. But I find it amazing! Gives me a lot of freedom with the movement, while still being a capable video head. The older version has the advantage of being about 300g lighter, wich is nice. It's working for my style.

Nice review Andy! I actually tried one of these for a short while last year but didn't get on with it very well :/ I really liked the fluid movement, but couldn't get used to the way the controls worked and kept messing up / missing stuff! I probably just didn't give it enough time and I'm sure I would have learned it soon enough, but the weight was also too much for me... I now have a Gitzo fluid gimbal and use it with a levelling bowl on the tripod - it's nice and light, has the familiar balance and feel of a gimbal, and is also super smooth :)
@AndyGustavsson4 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy! It definitely took some time to get used to, but I agree having to secure the tilt everytime if it's quite loose are a bummer.. And as you said the weight is a big concern as well, but comparing the price of a fluid gimbal with the video head I think its a good choice for those whom doesn't mind the extra weight! :)
@GeoffCooper4 жыл бұрын
@@AndyGustavsson yeah, that's fair, the fluid gimbal is more expensive than the MVH502AH, but it wasn't too bad a price second hand (I just had to wait quite a long time for one to come up!)

Hey, liked the review. I have one of these heads and have recently noticed some play in the tilt movement, particularly when the drag is increased. It means that there is some unwanted movement before the tilt engages and becomes controlled. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced a similar issue? All the best, Paul

Are there any heads with spring, which would not allow the camera and lens to fall on side?

do you only partially wrap the lens with camo? or was this just for this video?
@AndyGustavsson3 жыл бұрын
I tend to leave it as it is in the video, I got the camo with the lens and its very badly cut so the pieces which are missing are ruined, I tend to tie a skirmish net over my lens if I need to conceal it, the protective camo are just to protect the lens from bumbs and bad weather.
