Alternate route: After about a month of trying to text, call, and video call Miha, Ao becomes dejected and stops trying to reach out to her, finally realizing that she doesn't care for him, maybe never caring for him in the first place, at least from his point of view. He continues his daily life, trying to mask the heartbreak he's feeling, but nothing can be hidden from his best friend. He's then invited by said friend out for something fun to get his mind off of Miha. This leads them both to meeting two girls from a neighboring school and they all hit it off with each other with Ao getting along well with one of the girls named Saya. For the next week, the four of them do things together, with great times being had all around. Saya then confesses to Ao, hinting at the great chemistry they have with each other, but Ao, still getting over Miha, politely declines her confession, but wants to start out as friends, promising to dedicate time to spend with just her to get to know her better. Over the next couple of weeks, the two become close and Ao's thoughts now turn to Saya as he is finally able to let go of Miha and confesses to Saya. Overjoyed, she throws her arms around him and the two share a sweet kiss as their relationship blossoms. The two are inseparable over the next month as they are officially dating. Meanwhile, Miha grows evermore worried that Ao had stopped trying to reach out to her as she held to her thought of not returning any contacts to avoid feeling even more lonely. She was able to communicate with her exchange family and the time comes for her to come home. Her worry intensifies as she didn't see Ao come to pick her up at the airport and is beginning to think he doesn't have feelings for her anymore. She begins to make sense of it all, seeing her past actions as a huge mistake. Before she even sets foot in her house, she heads straight over to Ao's house, wanting to see him. As she rings the doorbell, no one answers. Next she tries knocking and then calls Ao's name, tears filling her eyes. She then hears Ao respond, "Miha?" "Ao!" She cries as she turns to where his voice came from with a great big smile on her face, but that smile quickly turns to a horrified look as she sees the pretty girl on Ao's arm. Utterly speechless, Miha runs home as she cries, leaving her suitcase behind. Ao, is both confused and concerned that his longtime friend is so distraught. Miha then spends the next few days in her room, completely filled with regret over her actions. "Why didn't I realize that I loved him sooner? Why didn't I respond to him? I'm such a coward... and an idiot..." Ao then decides to visit her after another day and the two have a bit of a hard talk. Ao shares that he loved her and had loved her for a decade but she never returned his affection. He had began to feel doubts about continuing to be hopeful that she would return his affection but the nail in the coffin was her not responding to his numerous attempts to contact her. He then tells her about how he met Saya and how she helped him move on from Miha, that she was there for him when Miha was not. With tears in her eyes, Miha deeply apologizes to Ao for how she hurt him and that she realized that she loved him in return after seeing how different things were when he wasn't around. She then wishes the best for him and Saya and Ao responds in kind and hopes that they can remain friends. He then gets up to leave to allow her to gather herself. She watches from her window as he is joined by Saya and the two go off on a date. Miha begins to see how different her life would be right now if she had responded to him at least once, seeing her clinging to his arm and going on a date, instead of Saya. "Now, I'll never know that life," she says to herself. "I've lost him..." She then begins to cry once again. Perhaps she'll get a second chance at love with another guy, and if she does, she vows to be there for him, no matter how far apart they are.
