My father told me how he used to be an "el-cheapo" before meeting my mom. He said that due to growing up poor, he was always afraid of spending money. But my mom reminded him that he wasn't poor anymore, and constantly worrying about finances when he didn't have to would have just put on more stress on him and her that they didn't need. She was right. And while he's still good with money and saves when he can, he's not afraid to spend it when he wants to or needs to within moderation.
