Yes because shorter hair takes less time to shade and colour. Also, that way I can get away with only showing the shoulders and up. I normally only use long hair if it's essential to the tutorial.

Thank you, this really helped. So many shading tutorials just show them shading and do not really include how to actually do it and apply it to your own drawings. Have you done any on light sources because that would be super helpful for me

im not really one to say this because youre really good at drawing manga but i think that you should try making the hair more.. i dunno... poofy? like don't let it sit flat and directly on the head because in my opinon, that looks a little better. but hey if this is your style and you like it that way then don't let me stop you! just a suggestion that i think u should try.
