It was cinematic but it was definitely not movie level, you can see Hajime Nihira's vision being very ambitious with that entire cinemascope segment but sadly with the poor production state right now he can't really do much. Sad that such a talented and young upcoming animator which was also responsible for isagi's first direct shot, the direct shot vs team X, and the entire chigiri run sequence debuted his SB/ED work in such a bad conditions but even then, his entire part had elite storyboards/direction(specifically with the simpler designs) and his own cut of KA for 2 minutes with the rin vs sae match up was really good. Hoping that KADOKAWA and the BANDAI companies up there in the production committee actually give them time for s3 to cook.

It really puts into perspective how budget balancing works in these situations right? Like, people assume you can just animate things amazingly all the time, but there's that budget cap studios have, which is different for each studio. If the budget was spread from beginning to end, sure, the earlier parts (and certain scenes) would've been better. But then there's no WAY we would've gotten this cinematic, movie-esque finale right? And as the finale of the arc, it HAS to be the best. HUGE W's for this climactic finale.

That's what I thought too similarly it's like the studio put nearly all the resources and time they have into the last 2 episodes and work on that FIRST and then work backwards to the first episodes. But because there was an imbalance of resources, plus the director's error, animation quality would drop significantly in the other episodes of the season because of the tiny little resources they have left. When the deadlines was getting close, they messed up and had to resort to that "powerpoint animation", which would then nearly destroy the fans' first impression of the Blue Lock Season 2. Hopefully, if there ever make Season 3, they should learn from their errors in direction of resources from Season 2. The animation studio CAN produce great quality animation, but you also need a good director too.

I can't comment on studio 8-bit specifically, but that's not how anime production works. 8-bit was taking on the best selling manga of that year, a budget cap might exist but that in no way explains the power point effects in the middle of a professionally animated series. 3 minutes of fluid action does not explain away 14 episodes of consistently clunky animation, that's simply not how the animation industry works, and that's in no way the aim of an anime. Shows don't attract fans after 13 episodes of bad animation just because the final few scenes are decent. I'm saying this as a big blue lock fan btw, I love the manga I watched both seasons because I genuinely enjoyed the manga. But I'm not going to start justifying the shit show that is the blue lock anime

The best part about this season was the small additional scenes that weren't even in the manga, for example the crowd cheers and reactions, it really adds to the atmosphere, let them cook for season 3 and we'll get ep 14 animation every episode
