Everything Must Go was a triumph because of Richeys songs, it became a massive cultural touchstone, which is what Richey wanted to happen all along.

I think this song's lyrics is the closest they have ever got to any kind of an answer. Though of course it's about many things to the band I think: the sweetest may be the empathy for the mentally ill zoo animals that Richey was disturbed by. I remember that documentary. Small black flowers can also be coal heaps and therefore it could also be about how the working classes are suppressed and sustained. There is a lot in that song.

You have your very own number They dress your cage in its nature Once you roared now you just grunt lame Pace around pathetic pound games Want to get out won't miss you sensaround To carry your own dead to swing your tire tricks Want to get out in here you're bred dead quick For the outside The small black flowers that grow in the sky They drag sticks along your walls Harvest your ovaries dead mothers crawl Here comes warden, Christ, temple, elders Environment not yours you see through it all Want to get out won't miss you sensaround Carry your own dead to swing your tire tricks Want to get out in here you're bred dead quick For the outside The small black flowers that grow in the sky Here chewing your tail is joy

Lesson from the song (which is always lost to the fans): Civilisation is captivity, the only escape being madness, or death. I do not agree at all. The message is anti-life, horrible and despairing. Agree with the song and all hope is gone. 'Here, chewing your tail is joy.' No, certainly not. Reject despair, embrace life, make civilisation better, for you, and the generations to come. Life doesn't have to be a zoo.

@@clementine2001 bcs richey once saw animal in a cage in tv, he feel so sad, and then called nicky who happen to see the same chanel so they write this song. Look it up, this info already known for years in manics fandom
