I travelled to the Philippines in 1997, 25 years ago (It's now March 24th 2022). The places I went to were Manila, Matanao, Baguio, Davao, Digos, General Santos City, and probably other places which I can't remember now. In Manila, I also went to the Manila Zoo. It was extremely hot at the Manila Zoo. The air was dirty. It was hard to breathe, no shade, no place to sit, and it was difficult for me to walk around, in that very hot weather and that stale smoggy air. The Manila Zoo was run-down, and small, compared to the San Diego Zoo in San Diego, California. What I didn't like was a crowd of about 20 Filipinos making fun and throwing trash at the gorilla which was in a wide area and very deep enclosure. I never seen anyone throw trash at an animal, only at the Manila Zoo. The gorilla was looking at the crowd, and was mad at them for making fun of him. The crowd kept throwing trash at the gorilla. If it were able to, that gorilla would get out of its compound and attack the Filipinos. The gorilla was yelling, roaring, and pounding its chest at the crowd. The crowd laughed and laughed ! I thought that was disrespectful for the crowd to throw trash at the gorilla. There were no zoo officials around to see what the crowd was doing. I thought that gorilla must be sad living at the Manila Zoo.

We went here yesterday, pero wala halos animals to see, yung elephant lang, birds yung Pinoy zebra 🤣😅 peacocks, boldeagle ata un small deer. Nag enjoy lang yung mga kids sa reptile, ayun lang meron eh. Ano kaya ngyari sa ibang hayop? Oh may araw dapat ng dalaw?

I am sad for the elephant. Elephants are social animals. They should ship the elephant to Thailand to be rehabilitated. I think what they do with the elephants borders on animal cruelty.

I don’t understand why there are no signs about the animals. Taking your kids to the zoo should be educational and learn about the animals in the inclosures… Is there a reason why there’s no signs about them? I’ve been to a lot of zoos and it’s standard to have signs about the animals.
