Being a cyborg, and what I would do as one really depends on what parts of me were replaced as mechanical. If the pulmonary system was replaced, I’d probably work in either the fire department or in nuclear facilities, because if I worked on the fire department, smoking inhalation would not bother me and if I worked in nuclear facilities nuclear fallout would have little effect on my capabilities. But of course, that’s only if the pulmonary system is replaced.

I honestly will sometimes just sit and wonder about how people's lives could improve if/when "cybernetics" ever become a real thing. Restoring sight to someone who had been blinded, restoring the ability to hear to the deaf, giving fully functional limbs to amputees, strengthening a weakened or crippled immune system, etc. The possibilities are endless. Hell, even a functioning form of cryogenics could be life-changing if people with terminal illnesses could choose to be frozen until such a time that a cure was discovered, at which point they could be unfrozen and resume their old life (or start a new one depending on how much time had passed). Are there possible negatives? Of course, but that would be the case with any sort of breakthrough of that scale.

Giving sight with artificial eyes, artificial organs to replace the failing ones, a way to make the body capable of accepting the new organ or limb... Months ago, one of my childhood friend passed away after the new heart he received started to show signs of rejection from within and unfortunately he couldn't recieve another one... I almost lost a leg 20 years ago in an auto accident because of another driver pulled out in front of me from a side street . I was on a scooter on a strait away but was driving slower do to road work. 3 medical professionals saw it happen and Quickly helped me , they all worked at the same hospital that I was checked into. A rod and plate were put in. the rod was because of one of bone knocker out of my right femur just above the knee. the plate is on the pelvis because I popped the seam. the bone graph had corral in it.

Chemist here. Actually, current technology is almost comparable to the representation. Powered full limb prosphetics and fine motor control digits exist though often not together. Three main issues preventing wide adoptation are weight, power supply and cost. Interestingly, most powered prosphetic users prefer to still own a regular prosphetic as a precaution in case the prosphetic runs out of power or due to superior functionality while for example running. These prosphetics aren't of course grafted but function with a socket or float with friction. However, a cyberpunk future is still quite far away though smarthones and pacemakers would suggest that we have crossed the threshold already.

@@TuntematonX I remember cyberpunk. I think I still have my cyberpunk RPG somewhere. I think cyberpunk was probably the inspiration for The Matrix and it's sequels. Just imagine hooking a computer up to your brain using an old-fashioned cable and jack, like what used to be used to connect VCRs to a TV or to each other. Then you could download a skill (like karate or playing the piano) temporarily or permanently (with more upgrades). It was a whole genre of science fiction back in the 80s. It was a lot of fun to imagine the possibilities.

William Gibson's Sprawl trilogy and Ghost in the Shell were as influential to me in university as the works of Jules Verne were when I was little. The concepts and compering them to our actual reality is fascinating, especially since we as a species can realise some of these wonderous ideas in our life time. Frankly, I'd prefer if we reached the weirdly specific yet still optainable goal of colonising, or at least mining, the Oort Cloud within my life time but I will happily live a cyberpunk dream - preferably without the dystopia.

@@TuntematonX Yeah, I've always loved the possibilities/potential promised in science fiction. Star Trek TOS got me started in the genre, and I explored all of the sub-genres, too. It's what got me interested in science/engineering as a career path. I finally ended up as an elementary school teacher specializing in science to inspire children to go this route. Now that I'm retired, I'm focused (you might say driven or obsessed) with writing my own novels, each one with elements of the fantastic, including one hardcore science fiction "space opera," as Gene Roddenberry once called it. I'd love it if we managed to discover and utilize some kind of warp or hyperspace drive so that we can explore the stars and peacefully encounter alien races.

Now, research is my main career but I own a part of a fiction publisher developing books and other content to expand people's - especially youth's - minds. We need some incredibly smart solutions as, for example, we can only measure the observable universe and we can't be sure of the universes size, because light doesn't travel fast enough compared to expansion. I was fat as a kid. The kids were pretty much universally mean. The ones that weren't just took pity on me. Now as an adult i still deal with that experience, i distrust other people and avoid them. And when i smile it's completely an act as i'm always thinking what they really think about me. So yeah, people are horrible to be around.
