I totally agree. This past year at my last competition as a teen (13-15) I won. But during the award ceremony(live-streamed, so we all watched from the living room of one of the dancers) as they kept announcing dancers for the top 10, I kept thinking even though I got an elite there is no way I placed. Eventually they got to the top five and they announce the two dancers that got high golds from our studio in that division. Then you get third and second(who were respectively the other two soloists that got elites at my studio). Then first place is announced. That was a shocking experience. I had never placed higher than 4th and that was in 4th grade with a jazz solo that I hate now but loved at the time, and then all of a sudden I win with a ballet solo in 10th grade. Very shocking. Though nowadays I find placing in general shocking, I don’t care if it’s tenth or in the top 5, I’m happy if I place at all. Granted I’m just happy that I can compete too.

While Nia has a point, I don’t think a lot of people knew that Abby never asked for Jojo to be put on the team…..it was the producers, and Abby herself admitted this in a Dance Moms cast interview. For Nina to say that she worked for her spot…..she made it seem like Jojo was just handed a spot on the team. If any of us actually watched those episodes, we can see that Abby was harsh on Jojo. While yes, at first she was super sweet to her and did give her a solo when she first got there….that’s not Jojo’s fault, nor did she have any control over that. Jojo did have to work hard to prove to Abby that she could do it despite the girls having picked on her. It was the producers who got her on the show, and as for Nina….while I love her, she seems bratty for saying that Jojo takes opportunities away from people. Jojo didn’t go to the ALDC to steal opportunities away from anyone, she came because she was asked to come.

Personally, I think that Kenzie deserved that solo victory, it was upbeat, fun and interesting. Maddie’s solo was also good but I just found Mackenzies more captivating. It was also horrid of Melissa to say that Maddie deserved it because even if it was she needs to be happy for Mackenzie.
