Manipur accounted for 77 per cent of total violence in the northeast in 2023: MHA
Manipur has accounted for 77% of violent incidents that took place in the northeast in 2023, according to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) annual report for 2023-24.
In its annual report, released Monday evening, the MHA said that the increase of insurgency-related violence in 2023 was primarily due to ethnic strife in Manipur. The MHA report said that Manipur is affected by activities of Meitei, Naga, Kuki, Zomi, and Hmar insurgent groups.
Attributing the spike in cases of violence to numerous casualties, injuries and incidents of arson since conflict began in May last year, the MHA said that the Centre has been consistently supporting the Manipur government in the efforts to restore normalcy.
