Tension runs high in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district after an unarmed civilian, who was allegedly shot by personnel of 44 Assam Rifles, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Sources said the incident happened on Friday when a team of 44 Assam Rifles posted at Gelnel village were on a Rope Operating Party (ROP) at Chalwa village and opened fire at an unarmed villager. Chalwa village is located in the interiors of Kangpokpi district along Imphal-Tamei Road.
The deceased person has been identified as Mangboilal Lhouvum of Chalwa village, a father of two children, and a daily-wage laborer who was making ends meets to sustain his family with great difficulty, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
