Manipur: Tensions flare after unarmed Chalwa local shot dead by AR cadre

Tension runs high in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district after an unarmed civilian, who was allegedly shot by personnel of 44 Assam Rifles, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Sources said the incident happened on Friday when a team of 44 Assam Rifles posted at Gelnel village were on a Rope Operating Party (ROP) at Chalwa village and opened fire at an unarmed villager. Chalwa village is located in the interiors of Kangpokpi district along Imphal-Tamei Road.
The deceased person has been identified as Mangboilal Lhouvum of Chalwa village, a father of two children, and a daily-wage laborer who was making ends meets to sustain his family with great difficulty, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

15 years ago, some central armies raped a young man and a married woman at my hometown, in Imphal West District of Manipur. After the incident, the husband divorced his wife and married to another woman, the woman was innocent. It is really heart breaking to remember these incidents. God will judge all the criminals. I will explain it.. an AR 44 major went out of duty with 3/4 of his personnel in their civil clothes and fired a villager who has done nothing wrong . This shows that the Assam rifles are looking down upon the kuki civilians . This kind of incident is not the new thing, we have heard and seen many incident from the past and it will continue until and unless the Central Government revoke AFSPA from Northeast. Taking advantage of AFSPA the Indian armies have killed lots of innocent citizens. The Central Government dont have guds to impose AFSPA in states like odisha, Maharashtra and Chhattisgar where Indian armies are killed by the Maoist every now and than but instead they impose AFSPA in Northeast where the situation is much more peaceful comparing to those states, This divide and rule policy and step motherly treatment towards the Northeast people should be stopped immediately. NGO's from Northeast should come together and pressurised Chief minister in their respective states so that Central Government can revoke AFSPA from Northeast as early as possible or else more such kind of incident is bound to happen even in the near future.

Yet again the ARs have shown their brutality towards the innocent people in the name of security. The atrocities and human rights violations caused by the security forces under the garb of security in parts of NE India and JK is in every sense of the word a crime against humanity. AFSPA have caused a great deal of suffering to the people wherever it is imposed . It is an archaic,anachronistic law that is antithecal to constitutionalism and democracy. Under the law, the forces have caused untold sufferings to citizens of this country particularly the people from the aforementioned regions. The total lack of regards for human rights and the immunity that comes along with the law has emboldened the armed forces to perpetuate their barbaric behaviours. Review of this law is long overdue and it should be done at the earliest before the people rise up to revolt against the state.
