This makes me recall the first time that I've eaten ('experienced' might be a better word to describe it) a genuine Manipuri thali. FYI, I have a low tolerance for spicy food but still love it. It was a treat from a soldier friend who recently returned from Lebanon. Everything was all super fresh, extra spicy but in a good 'exactly the right amount of extra spicy' kinda way, pleasing aroma, and an appealing look. I had a bottle of cold water ready by my side, I'd sip it when it's too hot to handle. I was careful not to drink too much water to save room for more in my stomach. It sure was an experience. My only complain: the food was way too cheap! Even if they charged like ₹ 50-75 more per thali, they'd still have a line of people waiting outside for a table to be empty. BTW, it was in Guwahati. I'm so sorry that I can't recall the name of the place nor the address. It won't be hard to find though. Just look for a Manipuri eatery with a line of people waiting outside during peak hours.

manipuri local rice has a much better taste than basmati rice. made with locally sourced ingredients manipuri food has a distinct taste, unlike any other indian food. my favs - sinjuk, uti, bora(cauliflower pakoda), a congee made with milk and black rice and of course eromba with yonchak seeds

The restaurants near Polo ground in Imphal serve only Fish curry and vegetarian side dishes..deep fried Rohu fish dipped in curry sauce, nga atoiba( fish curry completely shreded/mashed by heat), manipuri salads(singju), chutney, dal, iromba(a gooey mashed potato mixed with fresh sour manipuri taro stem, fermented fish and fermented bamboo shoot, slized onions and coriander), ooti(dried peas curry cooked with baking soda), fried channa, etc. They all come together under your rs 120. You can take more rice serving, dal, etc free of cost unless you order more of the fish curry. Good day.

@@IndianLocalFood yes, waynot I worked in transport line Guwahati- Imphal and I touch with Manipuri truck drivers they offered me their food and I love & enjoyed to eat Manipuri style cooked food , Love you with respect.

Can't compare like that of Manipur basti food, starting from the rice, Guwahati type of rice is not eatable, rice can get stuck within the food pipe..ha..ha.. In Manipur this thali, look at that quality of rice, it is delicious already! Once u cross Mao gate, it will be difficult to find good quality rice like that of Manipur!

It is available but you can't get the Same quality that you can get in Imphal Manipur. You can find it in Paltan Bazar, Guwahati. Opposite Network..

Hello Mithuna...It is not exactly veg but you can tell them that you are a vegetarian and they will provide you same thali excluding meat items....Price of this Thali is only Rs 120 and it is available till evening ...you can have breakfast,lunch and dinner. U can say u want "miramis" only...that means veg....but then even if u eat non-veg the dish involves fishes only...there is one more famous hotel "Luxmi hotel"...known for never ending varieties of vegetables items in one dish
