Great work! I'm retiring in 3 years and this seems like an amazing hobby to take on.

Great shots, but scary for the crew!

- I'm 20+ years, US Navy, retired. Those big cargo ships have plenty of diesel aboard. This ships generators will keep lights on, electricity throughout, heating systems are fine, the kitchen is functioning, hot water for showers (and sinks). Crew members are taking a day off while charging their phones, watching DVD's, and playing cards. Certainly, the ship has fallen behind for their next destination, for cargo onload, but hey...nature happens. We've been north of the Aleutian Islands once (aircraft carrier), off the coast of Alaska for 8 days. That was cold winter operations! The fighter pilots never faulted with landing and being catapulted. _Nerves - Of - Steel!!!_

It's actually pretty common. I served on the USGC Bristol Bay and assisted many frieghters in the dead of winter.

Her destination on the ship tracker map is "Exasperated Sigh" Oh, indeed. Big love to the crew from Duluth. MN.

Yea, I use a ship tracker and when I saw that, I felt the weight of their situation! Thanks for watching!

@@PeterJCimino New Subscriber. Great capture and to most, it looks to be a dire situation. The cargo ships generators are keeping everything inside running, just fine. Keep up the good work. USN, 20+ Years, Retired

@@PeterJCiminodid the local news networks use your video? They didn't credit the videographer during their broadcast. Hope you catch the rescue on camera.

Awesome video! I hope that ice breaker from Cleveland can free her. The lake is 80% frozen. Be safe out there.

Yea I got new shots of the Coast Guard tug that arrived but its going to take hours to get the boat out of there!

Bold strategy. Saw it today before I saw the video and didn't know it was stuck. Thought they were crazy for trying to head out there.

Yea a few people who are in the know have said similar that the should have known better. The rescue is underway!

The ice is so thick there, you could build a city on it. WTF was the Capt. thinking?
@johnsoper56757 күн бұрын
Actually, it's not the captain. I've worked in the wheelhouse as a wheelsman. It's actually the office that says to get the ship to layup now. Even though the captain says that the ice is very bad, and they could get stuck in it, the captain has no choice to proceed.

The Canadian Coast Guard ship Samuel Risley arrived this morning (Saturday) broke a channel to the Manitoulin and she was on her way home ..

Too cheap to pay for icebreaker escort like most of them this time of year. I know because I worked on an icebreaker 😅
@PeterJCimino8 күн бұрын
Truly the ice coverage went from 15% to 80% in less than 24 hours, they thought they could beat it as they were the last real ship to leave for the season. Crazy how fast the lake froze this year!

If she hadn’t just dropped tons and tons of wheat at the CheerioFactory(yes, my beloved Buffalo smells like bakingCheerios, especially in the colder months) , it’s really pretty cool and like living with comfort foods. But, if she hadn’t been loaded and able to get any momentum likely wouldn’t have gotten stuck. I’ll take frozen Great Lakes and 9 months of changing but beautiful weather every year than worry constantly about random wicked wildfires, tornadoes and some hurricanes. I lived in Los Angeles and Tampa. One of the factors that made the wildfires worse was/is inferior building materials (cement and tile would help) and everything in LA and SoCal must be xeriscaped. Except for flooding Florida upped their codes recently to help intimate wind damage. Best to All. We must admit and adjust our wasteful carbon abusecuz these things are the new norm. It is the sole reason I am reluctant to get aGV80. I get 23mpg on y CRV and the GV80 will likely return 10mpg of premium. But, I haven’t any kids, so maybe a little piggish-with my carbon footprint would not do too much ore damage.

I typed if she hadn’t unloaded and later mitigate, not intimate.

Seems a bit late for freighters to still be working, as I thought the Soo Locks would be shut down by now for the winter maintenance season.

You are correct, lots of discussion about this but officially the season is now over with no doubts!! Thanks my friend!
