Until that random person walked in right at the end of the video, I genuinely couldn't tell that this was a Roblox game. Sure it didn't have the most polish, it wasn't particularly scary and the fourth wall breaking was just very cheesy, and obviously there were some difficulties with the english translation, but it's still very impressive what people are doing with it, and I'd certainly be looking forward to more of the like.

I am perplexed by this seeming trend of making fourth-wall breaking games that don't do anything with the concept. It feels like adding the "I know I'm in a video game" angle meant we got _less_ story and characterisation than a standard murder restaurant story, because once that reveal happened the whole thing just sort of collapsed in on itself. It would have worked if, I don't know, the reason she was killing the player is because she loves taking part in the food minigame, and when the game is turned off she's left in a void state _where she can't cook_ (which I assume would be terrible for an entity which exists to cook food for people), so she's preventing you from finishing the game and instead forcing you to go back and replay the parts she enjoys. Something where the "self-awareness" shapes the NPC's "choices" and so becomes a characterisation aspect that we the player have to interact with. (The best examples all went beyond that and used the fourth-wall breaking as a way of shaking up players' expectations and making them question narrative assumptions etc., but that's tricky writing to pull off.) When it's implemented like this, I just... why would you bother? What did the dev think it would add to the experience? I'm genuinely confused. Why not just write a story about a maid cafe run by robots who kill you if you don't tip?
@PhysicsGamer Жыл бұрын
It kind of sounds like there's other games planned for the same "universe", based on the secret ending. Which I guess is something? Hopefully there's a payoff for that.

Well while i agree with this concept, i believe they didn't specifically made the game for the story, but rather for the idea of having a cool character. Which is fine too i guess. Is your game, you do you. Is not good but i saw worse.
@bumbabees10 ай бұрын
the credits say one of the inspirations for it was ddlc, so my guess is that this creator specifically saw ddlc, liked it, and figured theyd try something similar without taking into consideration what all that requires. i see that happen a lot in spaces where theres a lot of kids and teenagers, like certain fandoms. getting super ambitious ideas for stories, but never being able to pull them off (with some rare exceptions) because theyre just now realizing the amount of work it takes to make what they want. i could be completely off on that, but robloxs playerbase is made up of a shit ton of kids, so. i think its something pretty similar.

I remember playing roblox back in '09 or '10s, the most horror a game you could get out of something like this was a zombie survival game in 1st person jankiness or one of the old F.E.A.R games (not the shooters but their own thing.) Seeing things like this is pretty impressive considering a model like this would have been just another character like you but dolled up in hats and shirts that clip like crazy and there would have been an obligatory obby at some point, this just shows not only how far the game has come, but also the talent and developmental skills of the people now making these games. I look forward to possibly even more games in a similar fashion and hopefully the creator improves story and gameplay wise.
@pompousproductions10 ай бұрын
There is one aspect of Amelia to appreciate. (Outside of her design and decent name “A-Meal-ia”) It’s that she’s self-aware about her role as a horror game antagonist. She comes across extremely Monika-lite. However, DDLC is one of my favorite horror games of all time, so anything that reminds me of her is always a plus in my book.

I'm just glad the character in this game actually acknowledges that the game design decision is made by the dev (instead of blaming the player for their situation). There was another game whose character thinks that it's the player's fault that they're trapped in a (bad) game. That dev tried to sound smart or make his character sound smart, but this was a logical fail right there. In the end that dev used his character to hurt the player over something the player didn't do (which is to design them in inescapable situation, where turning on the game would make them suffer), all just to make his game memorable. (And you can't argue that that character blames the player "too", as that character never blamed the game designer _at all._ She could at least be indiscriminate in her hatred. That really makes me dislike that dev.) And sometimes players play these games in order to save the characters and to give them a good ending. That dev didn't realize that a lot of us sit through bad endings in order to find the good one. If that dev had casually scroll through the comment sections of some of these story driven games even _once,_ he'd know that most people cheer for a good ending, and they want good things to happen to good characters. (The alternative is that dev literally doesn't understand other human beings.) (And again, I'm talking about another game, not this game. I'm not mentioning the name of that game because I'm not sure if I should give the other game more attention than it deserves, but the character referred you as their "Zeus", when in reality their "Zeus" is their dev, not us.) On the other hand, Doki-Doki Literature Club realized that, so I have a lot of respect for Doki-Doki Literature Club's dev. I just hate those devs who would blame the player for their own design decisions. If you willingly pursue an obvious bad ending (when there are clear alternatives), then, sure, that'd be the player's fault, and the in-game character does have the right to curse/hate the player. But when the game is linear and the player doesn't have the ability to save the in-game character from their situation, and the character STILL blames the player... then yeah, screw those devs. It's just plain bad writing/logic. They don't get to hide behind their characters, they deserve to be criticized directly for their writing/decision.
@andrewramlall3560 Жыл бұрын
Are you referring to that one game with the anime girl with the lock and chain as part of her design?
@aquablast3155 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewramlall3560 Maybe. I don't know if I would call that "part of her design", but the chain goes further down (had to talk a bit before you see that), and apparently the character that we see the game from is chained too. But if she referred to the player/the observer as her Zeus, then that's the one. Also spoke directly at you (the player) in the end.
