If the data (eg: heights, weights etc) is not normally distributed, then go with Mann Whitney U test

Sorry but non parametric refers to categorical data (nominal) but here u have parametric data which are numerical continuous. So why do u call them non parametric. They may be not normally distributed but are still quantitative continuous.

If your result undergoes type II error where null hypothesis is not rejected eventhough its to be rejected and alternate hypothesis is true, in this case increase the significance level
