Music maestro Ilayaraja is a great admirer of Ghantasala, more than any other singer. SPB not only was a great admirer and lover of Ghantasala, but also conducted a very popular and successful TV programme, ' Paadutha teeyagaa ' ( title of a popular song of Ghantasala ) for years. Once Rafi himself praised Ghantasala and said, of course, out of his clean heart, that he could not sing at Ghantasala's level. Sadly, the first Padmasree awardee for a filmy singer, Ghantasala was not known to many because of his being regional. Mannaday might not have listened to him with attention. I beg to differ with you politely saying that Mannadey was of course a classical master, but Hindi is not the only recognised language of India to make him the greatest of Indian filmy classical songs. Ghantasala of Thelugu film industry stands first to get that credit. He was a great music director too, who composed music for 112 movies and many private songs including Bhagavathgeetha. Not exceptional. That adjective shd be applied to KL Sigal first, as far as Hindi movie singers are concerned. For the whole India, it was Ghantasala who gets that credit, may not be first but, more than any other filmy singers. As far as Hindi songs are concerned, i love and admire Mukesh more than any other. For the whole Indian filmy songs, it would be Ghantasala, more than any other for me.
