The British Pattern 1908 was very forward thinking, more advanced, and economical compared to other European armies. Once again outstanding presentation.

Soldier of fortune has put out new 1908 ammo pouches for 39.99 as regular quality and the 99.99 pouches as high quality so I can now buy cheap webbing for re-enactments instead of possibly damaging original or expensive
@RiflemanMoore4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately the cheap cartridge carriers they offer aren't very good.

Rifleman Moore yes with the price you have to sacrifice quality but for what I’ll use them for is blancoing them and using them I have original on display

Great video as always! Bit of a random question, but when later in the war, the haversack was moved onto the soldiers back, was the pack still used in matching order/moving up into the line or was it gotten rid of? Keep up the good work!
@davidbrennan6604 жыл бұрын
Our gear just gets moved about, the small haversack is on the left brace ends and the Large pack is on the back in Marching Order, the Small Box Respirator Haversack is carried flat in the top of the Large pack. The Fighting Order was altered moving the early war.

Likely the best designed equipment system of the early twentieth century , the Water bottle had issues, it dents and splits easily with normal Soldier horse play. The American System was good, the French system had a hated pack, the others made of bits and pieces.

Very interesting video, I'll guess that the early pattern haversack and water bottle carrier are originals. Must be very rare.

Those shown in the video are reproductions. Originals are fairly rare though on my list for future acquisition.

What's with the 'us if' rather than saying house wife?

Just a little question for you, why did they put straps on only the left ammo pouches so they wouldn’t open up, and not the right side aswell. Where you expected to only lean onto the trench on your left side?
@RiflemanMoore4 жыл бұрын
Left handed shooting was not recognised in the British Army at the time, the SMLE was not designed to be fired left handed (Kitchener purportedly requested a left handed version when it was first introduced but that's another story). As such men generally only leaned on their left side.

Rifleman Moore thank you, that clarifies it for me!
