Fort Frederick in Big Pool, Maryland is the site of the only English, stone-construction frontier fort built during the French & Indian War. The reconstructed fort is the center-piece of Maryland’s Fort Frederick State Park, and, every April it serves as the backdrop for the Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair.
During the Fair a group of 18th century military re-enactors man the fort, portraying members of Joshua Beals company of provincial Maryland colony forces.
This video gives you a look at the reenactors and historical interpreters who man the fort today.

Thank you for the video's of Fort Frederick. My grandfather Edward C. Whyte was the superintendent of the park during the 30's and the 40's. My father and my grandparents lived in the house that was located where the park store is now located. I have a couple of pictures taken from around the front gate toward the house which also shows the camp that the CCC guys who rebuilt the fort lived in. I go back to the park often and always try to especially make for Market Days.

I like to watch videos on Mike's channel as they all well done and interesting, but what really makes me laugh is when it comes to the re-enactors age and size (especially those recreating the XVIII century military) back in the day the life expectancy of an average male (except aristocracy) rarely exceeded mid 40s, and people in general were a lot less stout in comparison to the majority of re-enactors who (with all respect to the damn good job they do) just look well-fed :-)

Sadly in our era of under educated youth the kids of today have little time or interest in the historical past so it falls to our more seasoned citizens to keep the traditions and the memories of our forefathers alive.

Hello sir my name is witty and I have just recently becomes very enamored with Flintlock weapons. And I had a few questions and I'm sure you're the guy to go to considering you have the same passion that I have now begun to pick up. My first question would be have you ever purchased a Flintlock from sitting Fox custom muzzle loader and II have you had the opportunity to take a look at the French canoe gun and if so would love to hear your opinions on said weapon yours sincerely witty

The French and Indian war... the war that made America.... if I lived during that time period.... my weapons would be a Kentucky rifle, a Kentucky pistol, a Cherokee tomahawk, and a hunting knife.

Thank you so much for your reply and I completely understand that you haven't actually used those products yet I was curiously to know if you could explain the what the recoil would be with a 45 caliber round ball out of a 37 inch barrel I'm somewhat apprehensive about buying a firearm cuz I don't know what the recoil would be like
@md1756
@md1756 5 жыл бұрын
The recoil is less than an 8mm mauser rifle (if that helps). The weapons used by the MD Forces were Brown Bess muskets (75 caliber but using a much smaller ball approximately .710 in order to be able to load and fire quickly). The recoil from a musket is less than a rifle since the musket has no rifling although the recoil increases a little as the musket gets fouled from the powder residue from previous shots.

Thank you so much sir for your reply and I completely understand they seem to be a company that not a whole lot of people know as of yet but I was curious to know if you could help me understand what the recoil maybe from a 45 caliber round ball from a 37 inch barrel please and thank you with much respect witty

Recoil is dependent on the amount blackpowder used in the charge and the weight of the rifle. I shoot a 54 cal. rifle that weighs about 9 pounds, with a 90 grain charge the recoil is for me is mild. A lighter rifle with the same charge, would be a stronger recoil. At about 120 grains the felt recoil is high.

That diarama at the fort showed what looks like an know lake between the fort and the river. I do not know when the river meandered, but I suspect the bend in the river was closer to the fort back when the fort was built, then meandered away at some time since.

The lake (Big Pool) is the result of the C&O canal, not from the river changing course.
