Awesome cover of Daniel Johnston I was lucky enough to see him play live in Texas back in the mid-1980s, I was all of 15 or so. I'm 52 now. Daniel although a tortured soul he was a man who bore the beauty of his soul to us through his music & art. The pendulum must go both ways I guess, "No matter how dark the day, the sun shines down on me’ and ‘true love will find you in the end.'”Thank you, Daniel‘

Didn’t know he covered a daniel johnston song. This is very in line with the character

He covered this song back in 1994 as well. He’s been a fan for a long time. Kurt Cobain kinda started the trend and brought Daniel into the eyes of many as he started wearing his shirt everywhere.

Eddie vedder a living legend. Talking about a great song writing young man passing And how much inspiration came from him and how liked he was... I can only say I feel the same way about Eddie vedder. What he’s done and shared with us... inspiring..... heartfelt songs that will exist for all time. Thank you sir

Props for all of the quality clips you captured at Ohana. I was on the palm tree to your right. One of the fests I’ve attended for sure.

Nice reminiscence. He essentially covers Mike Watt's cover of the song so before this I was never sure he had even ever listened to Daniel...

Really sorry to folks who get a kick from this. but I like the original for the fast tempo. Anything slower just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. No disrespect intended. It's a quality cover no doubt but is anyone else with me on getting more of a kick from the faster original version??????
@elvarfreyrelvarsson5 жыл бұрын
I sure do appreciate the thought but damn this is not for me Well rip Daniel Johnston
@jamesparkerone3 жыл бұрын
I cant get with anything slower than the original. This song grabbed me for the basic a hell organ tones but the faster pace. Anything done slower just dont seam to kick. I like to think Daniel did it at that tempo for a specific reason. If you understand what I'm trying to say

I don’t know. Wouldn’t even recognize this as a Johnston cover. Not for me.

And that's how a cover should be, an interpretation. Like the Butthole Surfers interpretation of American Woman : )~

You might have missed the Firehose/Mike Watt version then. Honestly though, nobody is gonna sound like Johnston anyway, nor should they.

@@LiveInTown agreed. Im not too much of a fan of Eddie's cover, but i dont need to be...although, the somber feel in it matches completely for covering a brilliant songwriter that we just lost, so thumbs up all around.

Love this song! Well that is when Vedder plays it. Not too friggin’ crazy for it though when the actual artist Daniel Johnston plays it. Know that’s kind of odd but I just can’t get into DJ’s voice at all while hearing this song played even though it was his song.🙄
@blackdiamondrider5 жыл бұрын
You need to open your heart and mind to hear it. If Vedder can hear it, then why can't you?

Its not supposed sound rehearsed or technically proficient, just raw and visceral. That's the aesthetic of stuff labelled lo-fi. Maybe check out more accessible artists in the lo-fi category such as Guided by Voices, pavement or neutral milk hotel before venturing into dj discography.
@mythicalashley9542 Жыл бұрын
Lol eddies is dog shit compared to the way Daniel sang, its not about being a good singer its about the emotion he's portraying
