Lorsque l’abbé Prévost signe en 1731 L’Histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut - qui inspirera à Massenet sa Manon - c’est le tableau d’une époque qu’il nous livre : celle de la Régence, qui voit la vieille société s’éteindre tandis qu’une nouvelle semble naître, pleine de la promesse d’une liberté nouvelle. C’est entre ces mondes qu’évolue Manon, fuyant le couvent pour embrasser les chemins du désir et de la transgression, et se jeter à corps perdu dans une passion brûlante et autodestructrice avec des Grieux. Une parenthèse s’ouvre, qui se refermera dans la douleur et dans la nuit. Le metteur en scène Vincent Huguet s’affranchit du taffetas historique de l’œuvre pour en faire ressurgir toute la violence.

He's made for this role. Sills remains the perfect Manon. I find Yendes's voice awfully boring. I'm a trained organist and accompanist and Manon needs a much lighter voice
