Hey Folks! Welcome to Manor Lords!
This series will be presented as a beginner's guide or walkthrough as we take our time exploring every aspect of Manor Lords gameplay.
Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.
Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.
Manor Lords provides a gridless city-building experience with full freedom of placement and rotation. Building mechanics are inspired by the growth of real medieval towns and villages, where major trade routes and the landscape influenced how settlements shaped and developed.
From boots to barley and hides to honey, Manor Lords features a great variety of goods fitting of the era. Materials need to be transported and processed into finished products through production chains, and you must balance the basic needs of your people against the desire to produce luxury items to ensure happiness, manufacture trade goods for export, or forge arms and armor to aid in your conquests.
Yours is but a small parcel of land in a vast territory, and the competing ambitions between you and neighboring lords will inevitably lead to conflict. Lead your people into battle, not as expendable units to be easily replenished, but as your beloved loyal subjects where every death is a cost worth considering.

I love the way your village is designed, more spread out instead of everything bunched together. That is the way I liked to build. I have always loved watching your videos of new games because of how detailed you are in explaining them. After you and Mrs. Rambler got me hooked on Craft the World I watched those videos again to get the many tips you had on there. I still play that game occasionally. :-)

Thank you! The secret to doing a decent job of explaining a new game is to not record "First look..." videos anymore, but sit down and play the game for myself long enough to gain some skill in actual gameplay. From now on I'll only be recording full series of games I truly enjoy, and I think the quality of doing that comes across in the videos.

@@NobleRambler I agree. I don't enjoy videos as much when it's obvious the person is playing the game just because it's popular. Maybe that's the reason so many play the game fast. They don't like it so they want to hurry and get finished. 🙂

I haven't seen the tanner not getting directly from the hunters, but even so, it isn't a problem as they make leather quite quickly. And, while it isn't implemented yet in the game, it is good practice to place the tannery far from the houses as they stink to high heaven and people will not want to live next to it. You don't want to get caught out with people moving away from your village in the future because you placed the tannery smack dab in the middle of town once that is implemented. [edit] you did place it away from the town, that is good!

@22:40 That symbol is the symbol for clothes, not armor. The 1 in the gold circle in front of everything else is to tell you the house level is level 1. That exclamation point is telling you that the things after that are the things that household is missing. So that box is telling you that the burgage plot is level 1, with 2 families living on it, and is missing clothes and religion.

I have never seen the upgraded storage take logs. Will have to look into that next time I load up the game. Even so, if a logging camp gets full, you can build a new logging camp, and unemploy the full one. Construction workers will still get logs from a logging camp that has no employees in it.

The trade path is just so powerful. The patch is adjusting those 2 trade perks, so instead of fixing the trade route purchase price to to a 25 silver, it will instead slow the rate of increase on the cost of trade routes as you purchase them. the second level also will no longer eliminate the tax, but rather cut it by 50% Once those changes are rolled out it will make them much more balanced. I tend to agree, the food/fire merchant carts really seem uninteresting to me as most of the time, you can supply yourself with enough food and firewood anyway. But given that you are playing on the release version before the patch, those 2 trade perks are simply amazing. However, they do take up 33% of your perks, as you only get 6 in total.

I have seen them harvest gardens in the snow too. I think it is on a strict timer right now. I hope this is fixed in the future. because the gardens should be harvested in the fall too.

@30:03 If you look closely, there is a break in the Kings Road. It was supposed to connect. It was supposed to connect to the Kings Road that runs parallel to your regions boarder, but it stops just short. You need to fix that manually or trade won't come from that direction.

Putting markets all over the place sounds like me when I play Banished... LOL There is logging roads all over the hills here... Ginseng grows wild here and it grows best near the old logging roads.. (The ones that hasn't been used for years.. That's what I thought of when you started talking about logging roads... You are getting spread out pretty well. Good episode

With the trade post, you do not need to purchase a trade route to trade many commodities. Planks for example, are a great early trade item as you make them easily. they do not need a trade route to trade them away. The family you put in the trade post will happily export planks. Some commodities do require a trade route, like Leather and weapons for the militia. If you purchase a trade route for the planks, the only advantage is that they will get traded more frequently. But I have rarely found that to be a problem with planks. Also, be aware that in the current version of the game, if you have too many active purchased trade routes, the trade post gets clogged with traders and all trade stops. This has been fixed in the patch, but that hasn't been rolled out yet, only in the beta branch.

regarding needing 2 types of foods for lvl 2 houses, while it is true that is is just 2 types of food, not different verities of clothes like with the clothes requirements, the houses apparently have a strict order that they look for food in the market, and not having the food in that order can still cause problems with houses not getting the food they need and complain of hunger even if there is food in the market. The patch notes say that this has been fixed so the houses now look for food at random, rather than in a strict order, once the patch is rolled out to the general branch (currently is only available on the beta branch).

Oh, by the way, the name of the style of city you are building is called an Angerdorf (spelling may be wrong). That seed shaped area in-between the roads is called an "Anger"

That's the German village design you mentioned before. My intent here is merely a boulevard, a wide road surrounding usually landscaping features in the middle. It will make more sense when it is surrounded by tier 3 buildings.

TactiCat is playing the Beta for the next patch. A LOT will be changing, and for the better, but a lot of current assumptions about settlement building in the game are potentially going out the window. The first two episodes are up, and ep 1 (the one I've watched) is very informative. =^[.]^=

@@NobleRambler well Ostriv is faster than manor lord. Build 10 houses before winter, build traider for economic and make first economic before gold gone.

Both games have their merits and are enjoyable as their version of this genre. I do wish Ostriv had a food gathering mechanic, either berries/mushrooms or hunting. It would make you think harder about forest management and clear cutting.

No. I won't risk a long-running KZbin series on experimental patches or servers. Let it brick other's save files until he fixes all of the mistakes then I'll patch with the stable version.

@@NobleRambler That a very good idea! In my game it messed up the trading. I spent the Developmentpoint for 25 coins max every tradingroute. And now they cost over 4000 coins each.
