Long narrow fields was how the countryside was divided up during the medieval period. The logic being that it was easier to plow with an oxen in a straight line without turning. An acre being 66ft x 660ft which is the amount of land a man and a team of oxen could plow in 1 day. You would be assigned multiple strips of land to farm for the year and then a new set the next year to keep the system fair.

town witch, your right that some fields were skinnier or longer etc., but usually, if not most, it all really depended on the empire's economy, or one's kingdom etc. etc., some lords would afford bigger farms to grow for beneficial amount of food etc., some plains of fields with crops were wider, some were skinnier, it all depended on one's empire or kingdom or medieval " state ". they were back then a bit complicated to measure since not everything was preserved in history and some records were lost, however historians do know that farm size and crops, production, military and so forth etc. all depended on how powerful or how vast/big one's medieval empire was. read on "Agricultural Development in Jiangnan, 960-1279 AD: A Quantitative Study" by Li Bozhong, perhaps you will learn something new on the medieval period. or one part of the medieval world to take as consideration to the whole wider picture of the medieval period. however, based on research, there was a huge improvement of civilization after the western roman empire fell. the medieval world or should I say the medieval period saw a huge significant improvement in farming, agriculture, society, expansion, traveling or exploring and so on and so forth etc. etc. in general there was more than just football field sized farms. such as medieval western Asia or China, Mongols had advanced a lot of the medieval period with their ever-growing pastures etc. and so did the Byzantines, the medieval states in Europe, medieval France saw improvement and more of course with medieval technology. there were times which medieval Europe saw a peak of economic gain and other such benefits, for example under the reign of the king Lious IX.

Seems like this game would really benefit from "programmable" behaviour of pops. For example: families assigned to foragers automatically revert to the pool when the patch is exhausted for the year, farmhouse workers during growing/winter seasons. It would also be cool if retinues were their own dedicated households you had to upgrade + create a natural running costs. Would be much more realistic/immersive imo. Lastly, I think the efficiency gains from using oxen/mules/horses etc. should be much higher, offset by running costs (ex. fodder), again for realism & immersion. Still, this game looks amazing so far. Could also see a vibrant modding community developing around it. Very excited to see it grow into its potential.
@FatCharlieTheArchangel9 ай бұрын
Kept watching, more ideas: add a difference between rare, valuable hardwood and abundant, fast growing softwood. Designate larger areas for foresters to work and slow down tree growth rates to more realistic speeds. Long term possibility of adding water & relevant interactions (fishing, river trade, moats, mills, etc,). Coinage mechanics! Meaning: the more complex your economy becomes and the more coins you gain from offmap trading, the less your people have to barter within your lands. Your economy gradually becomes more efficient as each village can use the regional wealth to automatically buy goods they need from neighboring villages. Could be implemented via an info pipeline markets - traders - regions.
@FatCharlieTheArchangel9 ай бұрын
Army logistics could also be cool. Let your troops bring carts with supplies so they can move faster and further without losing stamina/cohesion. If previously mentioned running costs for horses/oxen etc. are included this would also naturally create higher maintenance costs for larger and more advanced armies, which is great for historical accuracy and immersion.
@FatCharlieTheArchangel9 ай бұрын
Adding (very slow) housing decay would also create an incentive to upgrade buildings and maintain resource chains. The lower quality the housing the faster it depreciates and the more often it needs to be repaired. More advanced housing needs to be repaired less often, but requires more advanced materials. On that note, permanent quarries would be a nice addition to the game.
@FatCharlieTheArchangel9 ай бұрын
Transportation! The possibility of upgrading roads with maintenance costs, possibly managed via the manor, to improve the connection between settlements as well as between critical resource/manufacturing hubs within regions. There's also the possibility of adding coopers, cartwrights and ropers to the economc stack to improve the efficiency of storage, transport, production and construction via barrels, large carts, pulleys/cranes, etc. Basically with every element you add you increase the efficiency of your economy, freeing up resources for further investment and maintenance of military forces. Ok, I'll stop spamming comments now.

I’m conflicted about how to feel about these several hour long videos. On the one hand, it’s nice to be able to watch as much of the series as I want to at a time without needing to wait for the next installment to upload, but on the other hand, having the daily uploads gives me something to look forward to every morning right at the top of my subscription page without needing to scroll back through days worth of uploads or getting to your channel page to get to the correct video. Not to mention, I oftentimes have to get into work early enough so that I can’t catch the video immediately when it uploads so I’ll save it for the evening when I’m getting to sleep. With the longer videos I sometimes fall asleep watching them (from fatigue, not a lack of engagement assuredly) and going back to find my place the next day is utterly nightmarish. After writing this out I think I’ve reached the conclusion that I prefer the daily uploads of shorter videos as it fits my lifestyle better. All of this does raise a question, do the daily uploads not fit the algorithm better or was the switch to longer videos undertaken with disregard to the algorithm?
@StratPlays9 ай бұрын
I know what you mean. I struggled with the decision for about a year now (I made several posts about it last year). It does seem to help with the algorithm since the views pile up quickly when people watch the video more than once (if they watch 30 minutes at a time, then for a 6 episode series they add 6 views to the video instead of 1). It also allows those who want to binge the whole thing to do so, whereas publishing them as daily episodes means they will lose interest quickly and watch something else the next day. The other side of it is it's much easier for me to upload a single video rather than 20, so that plays a big part since my time is quite limited. It's not ideal to alienate part of my core audience, so I'm sorry for that. Hopefully this response makes sense (it's 4am for me so probably not lol)

@dominges9 ай бұрын
The struggle of that 100% chase is that you scaling management is wrong. What you needed to do is use a bunch of storehouses and granaries to stock the markets AND have enough people to transport goods from the producers at the same time. That's why you were not seeing the firewood cutter restock the stall even that he was right next to it as he was producing the good that was taken to the storehouse instead of the market. It may be due to the long format that you lose focus or something like that 'cause I got the feeling you already knew that, same with the farming setup. Try to not get bogged down in such long recordings, I know that ppl love it but that is just running you down, try to find balance. As for the combat, when outnumbered like that last fight, try to have 1 light infantry to chase the archers and use your heavy retinue on give ground and the rest to flank break the enemy infantry 1 or 2 groups at a time to rout due to the massive flanked de buff.

When you sped up the combat I almost just immediately stopped watching. But hey, your gameplay and I’m just a single viewer. Nonetheless I believe that you will have lots of total war players watching all manor lord content and I’m here for not only the city building, but especially the combat. Been waiting years for this game, to be able to have that city builder annnnnd total war on top of it. Thanks for the video man first long one I’ve started

I need to be good if I want to make good/useful guides! KZbin is filled with mediocre guides that have good thumbnails and titles and I don't want to add to it :) I just finished this same challenge, but on the hardest difficulty mode so I'll get that video going up soon

Inlike the way you explain and how you play the game but after a while you started clicking on so many things in such a short time, that I couldn’t keep up at all and it got unwatchable for me.

Sorry about that! I was very focused on learning as much as I could so I can work on guides. I'll work on it for the next run.

My problem with manor lords is my same problem with kcd. Overpromised, underdelivered (IF yu have ben following each game from when they were first annouced). Obvs for KCD, combat becomes way too easy once slightly levelled, and the map is frankly tiny. The essential starter town of Rattay, is also the biggest town... Mods can fix a lot of kcd problems, and get you some cool sword duels where it is a ot harder to hit perfect blocks, and Incredibly harder to hit ripostes. (BOth for you and the enemy). Manor lords, too, the world map looks way too small. I like the idea of it being local feudal/landed gentry issues. But It needs to have a bigger world, maybe eventually with a castle. Right now, the fiefdoms look like a bunch of esquires and petty knights feuding over territory. esquires and knights are not really/are fringe nobles. I was expecting more of a feudal system, much more territories, and also the idea of overlordship, vassals, there being a king to curry favour with to ensure the law was on your side, etc. The city builder looks good, just like the graphics and npc's of KCD are good. But there needs to be a lot more work done, either by the dev or by mods to get it better. One major downside to this dev of manor lords. He seems hellbent on working solo. Maybe he is greedy. But you look at manor lords and just think, this game could be so much more if he'd just share the workload. WOuld I buy it full price? No. ANd i have been waiting for it for a solid 6 years. Right now i'd spend a maximum of 20 euros on it.

Can you invade other cities in the map? While you are building your own town/city, are other AI also building theirs?
@StratPlays9 ай бұрын
They are adding AI city building soon, but currently no it's just off-map armies that pop in.
