What I love about you ShackTac guys is the commitment both to the game and realism, but also to just having some fun with some less structured personal banter on the proximity voice chat. The Mk12 SPR is a marksman rifle, actually, and the VSS Vintorez is 9x39mm, not the "standard" 9x19mm para/luger we are used to. Some rounds just aren't stable enough to do the things that the 7.62x51 (or 54) or the .338 can. You can only do so much with "application" before the design of the round restricts you. The 7.62x39mm is no where near as effective at extreme ranges and as such not a feasible round for a sniper rifle.

No, the term "sniper" comes from the Snipe. A small bird. As in, they were such good marksmen, they could hit a snipe, quite an accomplishment in the time of muskets where most people could barely hit an elephant outside of 10 feet. Novatroop is right, all Sniper rifles are is rifles used by snipers. Also, telescopic sights are, in fact, NOT only used by snipers. Many soldiers in the US prefer ACOGs since it has a 4x zoom and a red dot sight on top for close quarters.
