Rob, thank you so much for your enthusiastic efforts at encouraging us to FMQ. I've been kinda dancing around the idea for years, watching tutorials, getting one-on-one instruction from the local sewing shop, and experimenting on my own with small quilt sandwiches, but it was this particular tutorial of yours that finally gave me the confidence to actually try quilting a real quilt (throw-sized). It turned out beautifully and it was fun. I can't wait to do another one!

Very good tutorial. I really liked your swirl design. And, I did not realize you are suppose to do your design work and then come back and do your overall 'fill'. Thanks for another great video Rob! I'd love to try this, but so far I've only pieced a few quilt tops and I'm kinda looking doubtfully at my sewing machine as I don't have the confidence to approach something on this scale this yet. :( I think I'd be more confident moving placements around, so if I screw it up I've not ruined a quilt top. I'd find it really helpful if you made a video demonstrating say, four different designs that would be suitable for placemats. I think I'd like to be more confident on FMQ before I tackle moving larger pieces of material around to do it. Love your videos, the bright colors and your designs are really inspiring! Thanks for all your videos in 2016, can't wait to see what you bring us in 2017! Keep up the good work! :)

Wonderful tutorial! I'm getting ready to try FMQ. So if you have an overall design, is it ok to quilt with the backing on top like you were showing in the tutorial? I wasn't sure if you were just doing that to show the design better. Also, it seems like the backing would show your design markings better. Do you have a favorite marking pencil that you use?

Thanks Rob your tutorials are very easy to follow. My problem is that while free motion quilting I end up with "eyelash" looking bobbin thread on the underside of the project. Most often it happens during swirls and circles. Can you address this in the future? I don't want to mess with the bobbin tension if I don't have to, am I going too fast? What makes the bobbin do this? Thanks! Cindy

Hi Cindy!! I have had this problem in the past, and what I was doing was going to too fast around the curves. I was taught fast feet, slow hands! Hope this helps!!

On the pinwheel quilt where you used the white thread, what color do you wish you had used? I'm wondering if you would have matched one of the greens or with something very contrasting? Such as orange or red?

thanks Rob I will try that!! I use both ways sometimes I feel I have more control with the foot but I like the way I can set the speed on the start button as I can get a bit of a lead foot..lol
