My experience of mansions of madness : 1.) You set the stage, set the mood and setup the tiles 2.) You get involved in the plot and try to figure out the best strategy to complete the mission 3.) Monsters appear and you die

Yes it's a very hard game. But the app is not too strict so you can allow extra actions or gain more clue tokens if you want.

Yep just finished my first game and monsters showed up and I literally had no way to prevent them from killing one of my characters. Her worst ability was speed and if she tried to evade it used speed if she tried to attack it used speed and if she tried to attack it used speed. That just felt like bs honestly. No skill there just luck. The monster literally spawned on her with no warning and no way to prepare

I am very glad to see both the actual release of the second edition, and you're How To Play video. Ever since stumbling upon your play through of the first edition last years, I've been excited to try the game for myself. However the complexity of the original, along with the Keeper player requirement, always kept my group from taking the plunge. Paul Simister Me too. Played two games and lost both miserably. The biggest problem of the game as I see it now is longevity. Replaying same scenarios is not that fun. Even though the game randomizes houses and things you can still guess what the outcome of some of your actions will be and that kind of ruins the excitement as it removes some of the unknown factor.

26:48 does the possible horror check also include the third monster that is in the same room as the investigators? Or does it only include monsters that are "at a range" of the players, but not in the same room?

A horror check is conducted against the single monster within range, with the highest horror rating (a monster in a different room wouldn't be within range, as it wouldn't be visible by the investigators). The reason that third monster wasn't considered in the example, is because it doesn't have the highest horror rating among the valid monsters. Does that answer it?

23:39 is it me or is that code puzzle completely broken ? If the first guess was 531 and the feedback was that one symbol was correct and in the correct spot and one symbol was correct but in a wrong spot then how can 523 give the same feedback when you clearly guessed that 5 is the correct symbol in the correct spot and you moved over the 3 into the only other spot it could be in? Wouldn't it have to give the feedback of 2 elder signs ?... Seems like the puzzle is broken or it fails to account for number duplicates and the code must be 533

I found some instructions about darkness not being able to move 2 steps or do any puzzle or in order to do a puzzle or search action you need to spend 1 movement then do the action. But in edition 2 doesn't refer to anything of the mentioned above, so my questions are: 1. Can you move and resolve a puzzle when moving in a dark area? 2. Can you do 2 steps when moving in a dark area?

Hey Blargle, you'll find range defined here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2PHpKRofNiAidUm17s - range is a generic term in this game that doesn't just apply to attacking. It means anything within 3 spaces (but not through doors/walls). How do you know which investigator goes first and which investigator you’re using during the investigator phase? For example if we have five people playing how do we know who’s gone and who has not as well as which character is doing the search

Hi Michael, this is covered in the video - during the investigator phase, players choose the order their turns are taken in. If you're having trouble remembering who has gone, just rotate their character card sideways after taking a turn.

You're saying, during a horror check each investigator has to resolve a check against a monster within range. Within your own range or within the range of the monster? If latter, what's the range of a monster and what happens if the monster attacks me from an adjacent space but I only have melee weapons? If former, is my range less if I only have melee weapons (do you have to perform checks against monsters in adjacent spaces if you have no ranged weapons)?

@@c0d3_m0nk3y It’s hard to know how to answer your question as it seems that maybe a couple rules are being confused, but I’m not exactly sure which ones you’re mixing up. Let me see if I can guess at it. In the video it says that after all the monster activate, as a separate step, you then perform horror checks. Each investigator within range of at least one monster must perform a horror check (and keep in mind, “within range”, is defined already in the video, so check that section to save me typing it all out here). You then tap the type of monster you need to perform a horror check against (based on which one qualifies as being within range and having the highest horror rating), and do what the app tells you. A horror check is not the monster attacking you, not really anyway, monster attacks happened before this step. A horror check is to determine how your investor handles being near such unearthly creatures. Are they freaked out by it, or do they overcome their fears.

When in the "attack action", does all the dialogue and "attacks" just include the player that initiated the attack action? Or do players take turns attacking thr monster?

I'm not quite sure I understand the question. Could you maybe provide a time stamp to the area of the video that you are wondering about. As a general reply in the meantime: Actions in the game are performed by characters, and each character is controlled by a player, so when a player is performing an action with their character, it is only that player that is involved in resolving that action. So if I'm attacking a monster on my turn, then no other player would resolve an attack action "during" my action. Does that help?
