+Matthew McVeagh Think the record company wanted the band to be more pop. This is a pop record which I think depressed Paul. Agree with you, great track!

this is mansuns worst single to date, it's not even b-side quality. Most o0f the songs from the album sound like they were created 0for a boyband. Comes As No Surprise was supposed to be a single and Paul wanted it but the record company chose Fool. Draper hates this song and didn't want to play it live.

@@contesketchup2981 You and Paul may not like it, but I do. I don't think it's bad at all, it's just not what they wanted to do and it does sound quite commercial, and yes, kind of boybandish. And yet... it's funny! And relatable. And I can't imagine more soulless bands attempting the lyrics/subject matter anyway. It's not my fave Mansun but it's one of my faves.

@@kissingrude07 That would make sense because there are way to many songs on this album which sound out of character to what Mansun normally sound like. Electric Man is awful for me and like the majority of the songs, they end up sounding like boyband ballads. I like the first 3 songs but it's all downhill from there on in. Comes as no Surprise is one of their best songs ever yet the record company didn't see it as a single. In the end it was the record company that ruined Mansun along with Draper being a dicator. I think the band had enough, they work hard for 8 years then Paul fucked it up with the Six album. That was only their 2nd album but you can see it was comercial suicede at the time even though it is a brilliant album it could have made them alot more money if they took all the wacky stuff off and left them as b-side versions. Fool said it all for me about Mansun in the end, it was a joke of a song, Paul hated it but the record complany released it.

I recall him saying it in an interview where he talks about little kix and how he basically had no control over the production of the songs. He hated the album and in the end, it ended up like a comedy series of boy ballad songs. The first 3 songs sound like Mansun, the rest after that are a joke because they sound like ballads made for a boyband like take that or Boyzone. You might like some of these songs for the melody but I just hate the end product. I was so angry when I heard songs like Fool and We Are The Boys, and Electric Man topped it all of as I felt like I had been ripped off. The b-sides were far better than the majority of the songs on that album.

This is the worst single they released, it's terrible. Comes as no Surprise was by far the standout track and should have been a single but the record company released this rubbish instead of CANS
