When they place the chairs on the floor, they cannot place them right next to each other, or side by side. If they did, you would be able to see the size difference. Instead, they keep them separated, sometimes putting one small chair closest to the audience to make it appear larger and the same size as the others. In the first rendition of the trick, he places the two smallest chairs in strategic positions when displaying all of them. One is real close to the audience and the other is the farthest away. By using the principles of forced prospective, it makes all the chairs seem to be the exact same size.

Okay my guess before I see the reveal: The chairs have to be somewhere he can get to them during the trick and they also seem extremely lightweight. This makes me think they are made to fold very thin into pockets on the sides of the box.
