Manticore programs in detail: #5 Ground Balance procedure explained

Someone is saying on another thread that a Minelab engineer & employee highly recommends auto balance, simply because the machine is designed & programmed that way. After a year in the field with a Manticore what are Your thoughts about that?

Below are my notes that I have collected about Ground Balancing the Manticore. I would like to hear your opinion about each one and if there are any mistakes or omission in my notes. Please describe your soil and water conditions to help me put your opinions into perspective. I've been working on ideas to test Target Trace, to lean how to interpret the plots. I believe that the majority of people don't understand what Target Trace purpose is and for good reason. There's no explanation of how the detector calculates the weighting of the conductivity to ferrous to generate a plot. And there are no examples to learn from. Tks! Manticore Best Practice Ground Balancing: Air Testing: Manually set Ground Balance to Zero (0). Dry Sand: Manually set Ground Balance to Zero (0). The sand must be dry for the entire depth of the detectors range. Wet Sand: Manually Ground Balance Pumping the coil between from 5 inches to 12 inches. In the water: Manually Ground Balance is the preferred method. Manually Ground Balance Pumping the coil between from 5 inches to 12 inches. Tracking Ground Balance for highly mineralized and changing conditions. Low to Mildly Mineralized Soil: Manually Ground Balance Pumping the coil between from 5 inches to 12 inches. Highly Mineralized Soil: Manually Ground Balance by Sweeping the coil at the height that you will be detecting at. Alkali Soil: Manually Ground Balance Pumping the coil between from 5 inches to 12 inches. Manual Ground Balance: If you hear a high pitch lower the value. If you hear a low tone, increase the value. Settle on a value that produces no to little sound. Pumping the coil between from 5 inches to 12 inches. Tracking Ground Balance: Optimized for a wet Beach.
