Thank you so much for this video. I have recently learned that dialysis will be a part of my life sooner than anticipated and your videos have really helped me. Being able to visualize what the day to day will look like has sincerely helped. Thank you.

I am retired but I remember doing this early in my nursing career. The patient told me she only felt comfortable when she was empty before the refill as there was so much fluid. I say this seems a lot easier than the high tech machine I could see how people would fail to be vigilant in sterilising and there are so many bits and pieces. Back in the old days it was done 3 times a day at least. It’s an enormous commitment and I see it still is. We had no betadine caps, only alcohol wipes and it was just clamps way back when. I can only think the costs to all the giving sets and solutions must be astronomical and I hope you are covered. It must be so challenging on days when u are otherwise unwell, say with flu. Your tutorials are excellent and will help so many people. I found them very interesting. Stay well young lady I wish you blessings in abundance and thankyou for sharing.

Hi, Raven! I watched again your capd tutorial video and i noticed you have Fresenius a Fresenius stay safe holder. Did you change from Fresenius to Baxter? May I know why? I'm using Fresenius for capd right now. By the way it's 2months already since i started and everything's going well. Thanks! Take care! Waiting for your new videos

Some people that i know who chose to take hemodialysis instead of PD is because of too much work like cleaning and scared of infection. How clean are you supposed to be aside from the preparation and dialysis procedure. Like how many times do you have to clean the room, your house you bathroom?

Thank you for making this video. It’s very helpful as we were trained months ago, but primarily do machine PD. But every 3 months we have to do a manual before clinic visit and it’s helpful to see your process. Thank you!

My husband just got diagnosed with kidney disease and I will be his care giver. Thank you for your video! I watched a video on using the dialysis machine and that looks complicated. I’m still unsure about how often you are supposed to use the gravity-bag dialysis .

My gfr is currently at 14, so dialysis is in my future. Thank you for sharing, it’s so scary to me! But, the manual is what I’m opting to try first.

These are very informational. I just recently found out I will have to start dialysis. I don't think I will be a candidate for the PD as I have hernia issues. So will have to do it the other way. I am curious how it is once someone gets a kidney transplant? Do you have to stay on steroids for the rest of your life? I have not crossed that bridge yet to even ask my Dr or PA about it. Do you feel better pretty fast with either way of dialysis? I have very heavy legs due to the lack of drainage, does this get better immediately? I have a hard time walking or getting into my car because of the weight. Thank you so much for being here and helping others!

Thank you for these videos. I don’t have kidney issues myself but I have chronic pain and I can appreciate people who have medical issues. I already have one medical device implanted in my body that protrudes from my back and I may soon get a pain pump with a port catheter. A couple of questions. If you want answer great and if not no big deal. Do you find your implant painful? How often do you do this type of Dialysis as opposed to the machine? Do you feel when you need to do you dialysis or do you just stay on a strict schedule? I hope these questions aren’t bothersome. I’m just a curious observer. You are a beautiful and strong young lady and I wish you nothing but the best. Again thank you for your videos.
@DawnRaven Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. So to answer your questions. 1. my implant was not painful once it was in as long as it wasn't incidentally tugged on and then it hurt! 2. Only did this type when it was necessary, i.e.-electricity was out or when I was somewhere and didn't have the time or necessary space to use the machine. 3.Strict Schedule for sure-my doctors called it a prescription so there was a time I had to do this everyday Hope that was sufficient.

I’m about to get my port for home PD. I’ve seen both of your videos on manual PD, and using the machine. It seems the manual PD is much less complicated. I was wondering what your thoughts are on both procedures? I’m leaning more towards manual PD after seeing this video. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to either type of treatment?

When you use manuals, how do you determine the ultrafiltration at the end of the therapy? My husband has been on peritoneal dialysis for three years and we haven't really travelled too far from home. We have not had to do manual therapy since we will be using the machine which tells us the UF after the cycles are done.
@Justforall72 жыл бұрын
Hi Dawn, I notice that you have a machine and you also do manual PD. Are you switching back and forth between them? My wife is on a plan on doing PD soon but would like to learn as much as we can from your experience. Thanks
@DawnRaven Жыл бұрын
Yes I did both. Manual was only for when I needed to be on the go and didn't have time or convenience for the machine.

Hello. I'm not sure if you will see my comment, but I'm about to start my dialysis training tomorrow 11/6/2023. I've already had the surgery and I've had one flush done by the dialysis center. I really don't think I will be able to get the hang of this as I have other issues that will definitely limit my ability to perform this on my own. So whatever info or tips you can provide would be greatly appreciated. My main issue is that I have no use of my left arm or left hand so I will need to figure out a way to do all of the steps with one hand. It's almost impossible for me to put on a glove because I have to pull it on with my teeth, which I'm sure is going to not be the most sterile way to do it. Please help. Thank you in advance.

Also I'm a little confused. That fluid in the upper bad. That just stays inside you for how long? When you do this manual one do you let it drain at night or is that only on the machine?
@nehabista1370 Жыл бұрын
When you did the manual CAPD, how much was the dwell volume and how much did you drain???? Please really need to know.

The Manual PD bags were 2L, And I would use the entire bag.

Does the machine make any noise that would affect the partner sleep cycle?
@DawnRaven5 ай бұрын
It's a small buzzing sound that for me was kind of soothing, but that only happens when it cycles most of your night the fluid is dwelling in the body so it shouldn't make much noise
@pauljones42726 ай бұрын
Would you change from pd and do hemodialysis
@DawnRaven5 ай бұрын
No I wouldn't only because PD was very effective for me and I felt way better doing that than hemo, but for some it's just the opposite. Do what makes you feel better and keeps your numbers in more alignment, would be my suggestion

The dialysis clinic only loans you the machines, you have to return them once you complete treatment. Hopefully you were able to figure it out.

you should put your mask on first than wash your hands. I know you sanitize after you put your mask on but touching your face I would call that a bad move when it comes to the medical field. Not trying to tell you what to do but in the cooking field when we touch face we are suppose to wash our hands.
