I've been a lorry driver now for 3 years, and these tacho machines still get me. Whoever designed that user interface needs taking outside and shooting, it's possibly the least intuitive system of any electronic device I have ever used. Thanks for the video though :)

I still don't get it. So if i finish work at 6pm take out my card, and go straight home. Then come to work at 6am, put card in at 6.15am. So did 15mins other work. Do I have to click the other work symbol for 6am to 6.15am?
@cerberusk9uk5 жыл бұрын
Yes, its usually the time it takes in the office, getting paperwork etc, but you started at 0600 so you have to account for it, even if its poa during that time you have to show it using manual entry. They want to know from clocking on to clocking off driving time, other work and break and rest periods.
@doms67415 жыл бұрын
@@cerberusk9uk if I took a day off. Would I need to put that in as rest? And If I had another job, (non driving) would I need to do a manual entry of other work? Thankyou
@Algorithm3474 жыл бұрын
cerberusk9uk why not leave your card in until you’re literally ready to go home ?
@cerberusk9uk3 жыл бұрын
Yes I believe so, it is so that as a driver ANY WORK DONE in your working week can be accounted for. Its health and safety...ie TIREDNESS I think.
@cerberusk9uk3 жыл бұрын
Because ' they' would ask the question, " so you didn't have a debrief of any kind?"... meaning, if you went into your transport office and handed any paperwork in etc,etc, then that is WORK and should be accounted for.

Can you enter the week's work prior to the day you put your card in? So say you put your card in on a Friday for the first time in the truck that week, but for the previous 4 days you've been doing other work for the same company, can you put the hours you've worked those previous 4 days in the tacho separately?
@cerberusk9uk4 жыл бұрын
Really good question, but I don't know the answer as it's never really come up, I don't know if the Digital tacho has the options to manually fill in so many separate days previous to the day you put the card in??? Hmmmm, feel a google coming on, if any one can help, please comment offering suggestions.
@stevehoulihan7264 жыл бұрын
@@cerberusk9uk I didn't think it could. I know you can add extra hours before and after your day's driving in a particular shift.
@cerberusk9uk4 жыл бұрын
So I think there is too much information to put on manually, but if you put the ? Icon on the manual entry as the icon instead of the bed /rest icon at the start of Friday, then continue with other work to start your shift, but I'm not totally sure, but to cover yourself, take 4 printouts for yourself and 4 for the office and fill them in on the back with a end of daily rest, or weekly rest, edr, or ewr, then date it sign it and roughly sketch in what you did, a horizontal line from 0600? ( the time you started ) up to say 1100 then break time for 45 minutes then from 1145 another line ( cross hammers other work ) until you finished 1700? Then vertical line with start of daily rest (sdr) written to the right of this line. Sign and date it with your full name, then repeat for the next 3 days, obviously you have to make 2 copies ( write both out the same) one for you and one for office 8 copies in all. A big faff but it covers what you have done previously. Hope this makes some sort of sense.

Did you press ok to get the date from Nov back to October? I got stuck today
@cerberusk9uk4 жыл бұрын
Ok, so if you want to change month, as in recent days, Feb to March, or 2 to 3, then using the ok button as it moves across to the month, use up and down arrow to change month, as in the days, then when correct month is selected, in the case now, Feb to March or 2 - 3, press the ok button to select then continue to the correct times you need.
@chrisniss914 жыл бұрын
cerberusk9uk I put card in 2.3.20 so the 2 was flashing I wanted to change the 3 back to 2 I finished my last shift 28.2.20 at 23.45 So when I inserted card top line was 28.2 .20 at 23.38 bottom line was 2.3.20 and the 2 I couldn’t get off to change March back to feb . I’ve done it loads of times before I don’t know what happened now I’m doubting myself
@cerberusk9uk3 жыл бұрын
Very sorry, just seen your reply, you need to go past the day onto the month first, then scroll the arrow down to change the month from march,3, back to feb,2, then back to the day you need to change.

sorry i fail to see why this i need to do this. If I am resting why does the machine need to know. Can it not figure it self out that i logged off.. if i drive another truck this card would always need to be needed. if i drive to work i never add the times to the log. Yes illegal but eats into my real driving time though both are real times but i am referring to truck driving.
@cerberusk9uk5 жыл бұрын
You have to do this just because the law says so...it is to show the authorities,if needed, every time you have driven or attended a paid place of work whilst being employed as a driver ( note, you can not even work if you are being paid, outside of your normal employment unless you make allowances for hours worked and it is legally documented ie part time work etc if it interferes with your rest periods ) and the Digital Tachograph stores the relevant information. So although theoretically you can see when you have used your card or not, it is the physical record showing the information ( Digital Tachograph ) that can be shown as evidence.

When do you need to do a manual entry?
@cerberusk9uk4 жыл бұрын
At the start of every shift, it takes into account the time you actually booked on/ clocked on and when you put ur tacho in, for instance, any time you had in the transport office collecting paperwork/instructions etc but obviously not driving, so say you clocked on at 0500, then got ur paperwork and spoke to the transport supervisor then collected ur keys then walked to ur truck, it might have taken 15 minutes, that 15 minutes will not show up on ur tacho unless you put in a manual entry showing the 15 minutes, so it's now 0515 on ur tacho clock but you have been doing other work for 15 minutes, so back the time to 0500 (on rest/bed mode for the time you were not at work) then change mode to work/ cross hammer, forward the time to whatever it is (0515) in this instance, this now will show the missing 15 minutes on ur tacho should the ministry DVLA or whatever they are calling themselves at the time of reading, want to look. Go through the video again ( as many times as it takes to make sense) until you understand why the need for Manual Entry, basically, you need to account for every minute at work, so a definitive START and Finish sdr and edr ( start of daily rest and end of daily rest that we used to put on the back of the old 'paper' tachos. ) 🙂 it's a bit confusing at first but makes sense the more times you do it, not all companies want it but a lot do with more and more of the bigger firms insisting on Manual Entry. Anyway hope this helps in a small way.👍

20 mins to do checks ? are you giving it a pre mot check ha
@cerberusk9uk5 жыл бұрын
I'm not going to attempt to be funny here about this comment but I can assure you that DVSA would be happier if it was even longer... The longer you can show that you have been checking your vehicle, this case would be an artic and trailer the better... 20 minutes is our company minimum. Just think about it, any quicker and what are missing???
@darthtool81315 жыл бұрын
If Dvsa consider us professional drivers and the law punishes us harshly to suit for infractions then why shouldn't a driver do his 'professional' duty and take whatever time he requires to fully check his vehicle and load, who's arse and career is on the line?
