Thanks for the reference mate ! Thumbs up ! I agree with you that the linear bearing for the z-axis sucks, the needle one works much better. This is not trivial, since the linear one naturally provides smoother sliding along the z-axis, however it fails completely in rotation. On the other side, the needle bearing provides perfect rotation and yet it doesn't have any problems in vertical movement (the spring takes over there).

+vpapanik Your very welcome! Thanks for designing this unit.

Looks great - but it seems slower then just doing it by hand. No?

Next step is some acme threads and some stepper motors and voila...a arduino cnc pick and place Wicked cool though...does it help alot w/ stability issues? What board is that you are picking and placing on?

+Brian C LOL one step at a time Brian, I would love to have an actual small automated pick and place machine but I don't need that amount of manufacturing ability yet. It does help with stability issues, that's the reasoning for building it, with the smaller components. I just have to rework the Z-Axis with the needle bearing instead of the linear bearing so it will work better. That board is the next iteration of the arduino environmental datalogger board, I should have the video out for that next week.

Great video as always, very informative.

Try a fiber optic microscope, under $20 ftom Chinese sites. They include LEDs and will work with some Android phones. For the vacuum you could try a solder dispenser as most also have a vacuum port.

For the vision system try a pizero, usb microscope, and pi monitor. Probably do it that way for under 100 bucks.
